Candidates for this position must be residents of North America.
Role Summary:
As a (Volunteer) Data Architect for Gender Freedom Society, you will design and build the data systems that support decision-making across the organization. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, you'll work with teams across departments - Advocacy, Communications, Education, and beyond, to turn raw, scattered data into infrastructure people can actually use, ensuring information is stored, structured, and accessible wherever it's needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and build data storage, pipelines, and ingestion systems to support data-driven work across departments.
- Partner with individual teams (e.g., Policy Advocacy) to understand their data needs and translate them into working systems.
- Turn messy, inconsistent, or scattered raw data into clean, structured, and usable formats.
- Establish scalable data practices and documentation so systems remain maintainable as the organization grows.
- Serve as a cross-departmental resource for data-related questions, requests, and projects, independent of any single division.
Qualifications:
These are meant as a general guide to the kind of background that supports this role, not a strict checklist, we encourage you to apply even if you don't check every box.
- A background in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field is helpful, but equivalent experience is just as valued.
- Experience with SQL, database design, and ETL/data pipeline development is a strong plus.
- Experience with cloud or on-premise data platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery) translates well here.
- Experience managing data migrations or large-scale data projects is useful, especially at organizational scale.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with non-technical teams to understand their needs and explain technical solutions clearly.
- Comfort working independently and setting up systems that others can maintain and build on over time.
Why Volunteer With Us?
- Help sustain a nonprofit that supports the transgender and gender-diverse community.
- Be part of a welcoming and affirming team.
- Flexible, remote-friendly role with opportunities for skill-building.
