Help Shape the Next Century of a National Historic Landmark

The Blue Hill Observatory & Science Center—home to North America's longest continuous weather record—is building the next generation of its Board of Trustees.

We are seeking accomplished leaders who are energized by building institutions, preserving scientific legacy, and creating lasting public impact. This is a unique opportunity to help guide one of America's oldest continuously operating scientific organizations at a defining moment in its 141-year history.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome leaders from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, including business, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, finance, law, education, communications, technology, science, public service, and the nonprofit sector.

We are especially interested in individuals who:

• Enjoy building and transforming organizations
• Bring strategic insight and sound judgment
• Have broad professional networks and a collaborative leadership style
• Believe in the importance of science, education, and public engagement
• Want to help preserve and strengthen an institution that serves future generations

We believe a strong board reflects a broad range of professional experiences, perspectives, and lived experiences, and we encourage leaders from all backgrounds to express interest.

• Philanthropy and major gifts
• Corporate leadership and business development
• Finance, audit, and investment
• Law and nonprofit governance
• Climate, science, and technology
• Marketing, communications, and media
• Education and public engagement
• Real estate, facilities, and capital projects

Board Responsibilities

• Provide strategic oversight and governance
• Help shape the Observatory's long-term vision
• Serve as an ambassador and connector
• Support fundraising and resource development, including an annual leadership-level gift
• Attend quarterly board meetings and committee meetings
• Help recruit future trustees

Board Structure

• Three-year term (renewable once)
• Quarterly meetings plus committee service
• 100% board giving participation
• Multiple trustee positions available
