    Descripción

    Overview :

    The Rainbow Labs Mentor plays a vital role in supporting LGBTQIA+ youth ages 13 - 17 by providing guidance, encouragement, and lived-experience-informed support across Rainbow Labs programming. We are currently seeking Innovation Lab Mentors for our East LA High School program site. You'd be joining mid program, program runs from February 2026 - May 2026!

    In this role, mentors work alongside a Program Coordinator to implement a structured, project-based weekly curriculum through authentic connection and meaningful engagement with youth participants. Mentors serve as consistent, affirming role models who help create a brave and inclusive space where young people feel seen, valued, and empowered.

    Key Responsibilities :

    • Build trusting, supportive relationships with assigned mentees through consistent check-ins and meetings
    • Provide guidance on personal growth, goal setting, and self-advocacy
    • Support mentees with career exploration, resume building, interview preparation, and professional development
    • Encourage healthy coping strategies, emotional regulation, and wellness practices
    • Connect mentees to relevant Rainbow Labs programs, workshops, and community resources
    • Model professionalism, accountability, and healthy boundaries
    • Maintain accurate documentation of mentor–mentee interactions as required
    • Communicate regularly with Rainbow Labs staff regarding mentee progress, concerns, or successes
    • Participate in required trainings, supervision, and mentor meetings

    Qualifications :

    • Lived experience as an LGBTQIA+ individual or strong demonstrated allyship
    • Experience working with youth (ages 12 - 17), especially those from historically marginalized communities
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
    • Trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and nonjudgmental approach
    • Reliable, organized, and able to commit to scheduled mentor sessions

    Preferred Qualifications :

    • Prior mentoring, coaching, counseling, or peer support experience
    • Background in social services, community organizing, education, or workforce development
    • Bilingual or multilingual skills (Spanish a plus)
    • Familiarity with Los Angeles based LGBTQIA+ resources
