Join The Nature Conservancy's naturalist team at Cascade Head!

Do you enjoy interacting with the public and have a desire to learn more about Oregon’s natural history? Do you live near or are you willing to travel to/from Lincoln City on the Oregon coast? Are you seeking an opportunity to expand and develop leadership and naturalist skills while spending time in one of the most beautiful places in Oregon? If so, we invite you to apply to volunteer as a Cascade Head Preserve naturalist with The Nature Conservancy. Cascade Head naturalists greet visitors, answer questions, and foster compliance with visitor guidelines. Volunteers patrol the preserve at least twice during the field season. Our typical preserve season is from May to September. We are considering applicants on a rolling basis. We look forward to hearing from you!

    Instructions:

Hello - To learn more about this role and see a detailed position description, please contact orvolunteers@tnc.org. This year's Cascade Head Preserve training will be hosted on Saturday, May 2. If you decide you are interested, you can apply for one of our 2026 volunteer naturalists positions by filling out our volunteer application and answering the five questions below. Please indicate which site(s) you are applying for as we are recruiting naturalists for multiple locations. Deadline to apply is Friday, April 17. Thank you!

    Questions:

    1. Please describe any experience you have that will help you perform the duties required in the naturalist position.
    2. Are you comfortable asking visitors to comply with preserve guidelines (including, but not limited to staying on the trail and not bringing dogs on the preserve – we will provide creative ideas on how to do so in a friendly way)?
    3. Can you commit to serving as a naturalist for two weekend days during our naturalist season?
    4. It is possible this volunteer position will/might involve interacting with Youth hiking the trails - tell us about how you interact with Youth and whether working with youth appeals to you?
    5. Are you interested in serving as an assistant hike leader for Conservancy supporters this year and if yes, do you have any experience leading guided hikes or something similar (this is an optional duty that you may be invited to add to your naturalist commitment)?
    6. Please provide us with 3 references (a mix of personal and professional is recommended) and their contact information (ideally phone and email). We will begin checking references after we receive your application unless you tell us you prefer for us to wait for some reason.
