The United Nations Volunteers is the United Nations organisation that supports sustainable human development globally through the promotion of volunteerism, including the mobilisation of volunteers. It serves the causes of peace and development through enhancing opportunities for participation by all peoples. It is universal, inclusive and embraces volunteer action in all its diversity. It values free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity, which are the foundations of volunteerism.
In Cambodia, UNV recruits and manages international and national specialists to work towards the achievement of the Cambodia MDGs within the overall context of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework.
UNV Cambodia’s programming efforts particularly focus on:
1. Community Mobilisation in Support of - Environmental Protection - Human Rights - Rural Development 2. The Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA) 3. Youth Engagement in Development 4. Urban Development, and 5. Support to the Cambodian Parliament
UNV Cambodia also supports the initiatives of, and promotes networking among volunteer-involving organisations, volunteer groups and individual volunteers. This is done through public advocacy and awareness raising, capacity building and facilitating communication and interaction.
