NYCISPES has been working since 1980 in solidarity with the Salvadoran social justice movement to promote an alternative to the oppressive US-backed policies of the Salvadoran right. NY CISPES, in conjunction with the national CISPES office, works to promote a cross-border movement that can confront the injustices of the neo-liberal economic model and US militarism that is ravaging El Salvador and Latin America. We accomplish these goals by mobilizing volunteer activists to carry out education campaigns, organize public protests, apply pressure to government officials and play an active role in local social justice coalitions. In addition to coordinating speaker tours and cultural events, we raise funds for alternative solutions in El Salvador, especially labor unions and the women's movement.
