About Us

The Library is the heart of the BHSEC Queens scholarly and creative community. It is both a classic library that reveres great literature, and an innovative library that embraces new information technology. It is both a quiet place in which independent study is valued, and a vibrant place where conversation and collaboration flourish. The librarian teaches and co-teaches research units across all academic disciplines, preparing students to conduct college-level research. The Library also hosts the Learning Center tutoring program daily, and author readings monthly.

BHSEC is a public institution. No tuition is charged. The BHSEC student body is broadly diverse in ethnic and economic background. Students from the five boroughs of New York City are eligible to apply. Enrollment is limited to approximately 500. The average teacher to student ratio is 20:1. Last year, BHSEC received approximately 4,000 applications for 135 places in the class of 2008.
