Hi Neighbor:
I am running for City Council in District 11, and I hope you read what I’ve written
below. As we have seen, politics play a very real part in our everyday lives.
I am not in the pockets of anybody, yet I am beholden to the place that I live, Charm City.
I believe that economic development occurs when we invest in people, not buildings. I
propose that we begin by helping our neighbors who need our help the most. We must
reinvest in our education system by providing better funding for our public schools. We
must also provide additional incentives to small businesses, especially those owned by
Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), who make up the majority of this great
city. When we support local businesses, we enrich the community, and this writer cannot
think of anything that this country needs more than strong, local communities. So, lets
start at home, in our schools, and the places we work and shop.
I know the meaning of hard work and dedication, and knowing that you want something
for years and years, and doing anything that you can in order to achieve it. I was born and
raised in Maryland, and have resided in Baltimore for over four decades. It was here that
I raised my now 30-year-old lawyer son, and experienced changes both in the city and
personally. I come before you a proud transgender woman, with a lifetime of experience
serving this community in both private and public roles. As a parent, I often used the
phrase, “change will come, to those who wait.” Well, in all due respect to my days of
parenting, we don’t have the luxury to sit around and wait. We need to get to work, and
stop electing representatives who think that we serve them, and start electing people that
represent the city of Baltimore and its diverse communities: people like me.
Join me with your donations, your volunteerism, and most importantly, your vote. I
welcome being personally contacted with any questions or concerns, but if I have left you
with anything after having read this letter, please know this: I was born here, I was raised
here, I’ve spent my life here, and I’m not going anywhere. I love this city, and I will do
anything to keep it a place that any person, from any walk of life, can call home.
Very Truly Yours,
Kristina Lynch
