Iberostar seeks a Senior Environmental Data Scientist with a passion for leveraging data-driven insights to address climate and nature related challenges. The Senior Environmental Data Scientist, will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting climate, coastal and ocean ecosystems data, conducting risk assessments, and developing models to predict and quantify the impacts of on properties and destinations, as well as evaluating mitigation actions and coastal health. Working within the Coastal Health team the Senior Data Scientist will work with scientists and managers to drive applied science for action.  

Role and Responsibilities

Data Interpretation: 

  • Develop indexes and identify appropriate indicators that align with global standards.  
  • Clean, and analyze large-scale climate data from various sources, including satellites, weather stations, and climate models.
  • Identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in the data.
  • Ensure accurate and consistent data collection and interpretation. 

Risk, Risk Mitigation and Coastal Health Assessment

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to evaluate potential threats to businesses, infrastructure, and communities.
  • Quantify the probability of extreme weather events, sea-level rise, temperature changes, and other climate impacts.
  • Assess the vulnerabilities of different regions and properties

Support strategy and actions

  • Provide data-driven insights to support Coastal Health Strategy and hotel priorities.
  • Assist in the development of strategies and action plans.
  • Communicate complex technical findings in a clear and understandable manner to non-technical audiences.

Research and Innovation

  • Stay updated and align the indices to global risk indices?
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in climate science, data analytics, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and participate in conferences and workshops to share research findings.

Job Requirements

  1. A master's  in environmental data science, environmental science, climate science, or a related field.
  2. Strong background in statistical analysis, data manipulation, and machine learning techniques.
  3. Experience working with climate and environmental data, climate models, and geospatial data is required.
  4. Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques to effectively communicate results.
  5. Solid understanding of climate change science and its impacts on different sectors.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present findings to stakeholders.

Skills

  1. A team player, with strengths in maintaining positive relationships with team members.
  2. Excellent interpersonal skills, creating and promoting positive and productive working environment with internal and external partners
  3. Ability to transfer knowledge and provide guidance. 
  4. Independent worker with initiative and ability to problem solve. 
  5. Scuba diving experience desired.
  6. Public speaking experience. 
  7. Spanish and English language fluency.
  8. High skill-level in Microsoft office,  Google and modeling programs.
