The Office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis is offering a notable career opportunity for an energetic, self-motivated individual for the position of Transportation Aide. 

Supervisor Solis is proud to serve LA County’s First District, home to two million residents across 246 square miles from several diverse communities: East Los Angeles to East Hollywood, MacArthur Park to Eagle Rock, and Alhambra to Pomona. The candidate must be community-oriented and have a strong interest in improving the quality of life for residents of Los Angeles County.

Key Responsibilities:

The Transportation Aide will work under the planning team and will report to the Supervisor’s Director of Infrastructure and Economic Development. The planning team implements and oversees the transportation portfolio comprised of cross-jurisdictional policies, projects, programs, and initiatives in the First Supervisorial District of Los Angeles County. The planning team collaborates with various County departments as well as local and regional agencies, other Board offices, all levels of government (cities, State, and Federal), constituents, labor partners, community groups, commissions, and other stakeholders to advance policy initiatives that foster safety, mobility, equity, reduction in carbon emissions, and healthy and vibrant neighborhoods for First District residents.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

·        Collaborate with the planning team, Metro, Metrolink, city managers, regional partners, and relevant County departments.

·        Maintain accurate logs of all policies, project timelines, constituent feedback, and program implementation.

·        Manage the planning team’s logistics, including briefings, committee meetings, schedules, and Board meetings.

·        Manage communications with, but not limited to, County agencies, constituents, community organizations, and elected officials.

·        Support the planning team with Board processes and engagements in a confidential manner.


Required Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Policy, Public Administration, Regional Planning, or a related field.

·        3 years’ experience working with local, state, or federal transportation agencies.

·       A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of

transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

·        Basic understanding of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Teams are required.

·        Excellent interpersonal skills, including effectively interacting with colleagues, elected officials, union/labor/corporate/business representatives, community stakeholders, and constituents.

·        Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with sound decision-making and willingness to take direction.

·        Ability to prioritize tasks.

·        Familiarity with communities throughout the First District, ability to work respectfully with people from all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

·        Ability to multitask and adapt to a fast-paced schedule.

·        Work a flexible schedule, including after-hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.  

·        Must be highly self-motivated and committed to the needs of the First District.

·        Knowledge about transportation issues local to Los Angeles and experience in civic engagement and/or advocacy is desired.


Please note that this professional-level staff position will require work hours beyond the typical workday and will include weekend and holiday work. The position is full-time, exempt, and unclassified. The salary range is $60,000 - $90,000 per year. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and includes excellent benefits.
