Description

Reporting to the Strategy Lead, the Data and Strategy Analyst will support the data analysis, management, and training for Crown Family Philanthropies’ (CFP) strategic priority areas with a special focus on key initiatives.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Data Analysis and Strategy:

  • Conduct robust data analyses to identify program/process improvement opportunities and evaluate the impact of key strategic initiatives such as the Tuition Accessibility Partnership Fund and Chi-Rise 
  • Communicate clear recommendations for improvements, decision-points, and on areas for deeper exploration based on analyses
  • Provide guidance and support to Program Teams in developing robust Data Dashboards to inform their grantmaking strategies, including the collection, aggregation and analysis of data from a range of data sources
  • Review and provide feedback on external evaluations of initiatives funded by the Foundation, including both qualitative and quantitative analyses
  • Create visualizations for data analyses and insights
  • Proactively address potential roadblocks or complications as decisions are discussed and provide alternative solutions to improve efficiency 

Data Management:

  • Support data management for all Program Teams, both in Excel and Salesforce, including data input, data cleaning, and report generation
  • Clean and consolidate data from a variety of data sources, including identifying and resolving inconsistencies and duplications
  • Work with external partners to collect data reports and ensure consistency, including documentation of all data sources 

Training:

  • Develop data best practices and establish protocols to audit for consistency across staff members and teams
  • Document Salesforce and other processes to help build out training materials
  • Prepare and facilitate timely staff trainings in collaboration with other departments including providing training to newly onboarded staff
  • Provide opportunities for staff to ask questions and seek guidance as needed on data practices

Cross-Department Coordination and Engagement:

  • Coordinate with CFP team across Program Areas, operations, and family engagement to ensure cross-functional communication and consistency
  • Play an advisory and collaborative role within the Analyst team, providing guidance or mentorship to CFP colleagues on data and evaluation issues related to the non-profit and/or philanthropic sectors`
  • Participate in cross-functional teams that advance organizational aims around social impact and family engagement
  • Engage in initiatives that foster team collaboration, including meetings, trainings, retreats, and special projects, taking the lead where interest, expertise, and opportunity coalesce

 Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience; master’s degree in relevant field is a plus
  • At least three years of experience in strategic analysis, management consulting, or program evaluation
  • Experience in or familiarity with the nonprofit sector (including board service or volunteer work) is a plus

  • Exceptional analytical skills – comfort with cleaning, organizing, and analyzing a range of data sets and translate those analyses to insights
  • Willingness to learn about a variety of program areas and explore a range of data sources
  • Comfort with ambiguity and working through limited data accessibility 
  • Superb organizational skills including ability to prioritize agendas and manage conflicting needs; ability to respond flexibly to shifting priorities 
  • Meticulous attention to detail, particularly when tackling administrative tasks and data entry
  • Ability to problem solve independently and in groups 
  • Capacity for peer mentorship and training
  • Willingness to take initiative and bring new concepts to the team
  • Ability to think and implement at both strategic and tactical levels
  • Intermediate-advanced Microsoft Excel (ex: SUMIF formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUPs etc.)
  • Experience working with large data sets and CRMs (Salesforce is a plus) 
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau is a plus

Hybrid Work Environment

Henry Crown and Company and CFP currently operate in a hybrid work environment, with staff expected to work in the downtown Chicago office a minimum of two days per week.
