Role Overview:

The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is seeking a highly organized, solutions-oriented, self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced work environment.  The programs intern will work with a number of IWMF’s programs and awards, including the Newsroom Safety Across America Initiative and News Safety Cohort along with as-needed support to the communications team. The IWMF is working on structuring new emerging programs, which the Program Intern may be expected to assist with.

 

Who We Are

The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is the only global non-profit organization that offers emergency support, safety training, global reporting opportunities, and funding for both staff reporters and freelancers, all specifically tailored for women and nonbinary journalists. Our mission is to ensure more opportunities, bylines, and recognition of women and nonbinary journalists and create a greater diversity of voices in journalism.

 

Role Specifics:

  • Edit and create content for program events, including copy-editing and design work;
  • Assist in application and selection processes;
  • Research program-related funders;
  • Conduct outreach to program applicants, participants, and alumni;
  • Draft program-related correspondence;
  • Update the IWMF’s website with relevant program information, incoming stories from IWMF programs, and any other website maintenance;
  • Assist with program monitoring and evaluation;
  • Creating graphics and visual representations of collected M&E data;
  • Assist with day-to-day tasks related to program implementation;
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Reports to: Senior Program Coordinator

Hours: Part-time (minimum of 16 hours/week). This is a paid internship ($1,000/month). 

The IWMF will work with the programs intern to set their schedule at the start of the internship. The IWMF office follows eastern time business hours. Our preferred start date and the end date is flexible. Minimum requirement of 3 months. 

Location: Washington, D.C., Chicago or remote


Role Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal communications and relationship skills, and an ability to work well with a variety of people and personalities across cultures;
  • Solid group facilitation and team leadership skills;
  • Sense of humor and ability to stay calm under pressure;
  • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented;
  • Strong and accurate writing and editing skills;
  • Experience with programmatic monitoring and evaluation preferred; 
  • Sound judgment and ability to exercise high level of discretion
  • Computer literacy: demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, strong internet research skills, design skills on Asana, Adobe Creative Suite or Canva a plus;
  • Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred;
  • Familiarity with WordPress strongly preferred.
