Description

Job Title:

Family Week Program Intern

Reporting to:

Senior Manager, Program Events

Job Location:

Remote/working from home with travel July 25th, 2024 – August 5th, 2024

Background:

Founded in 1979, Family Equality’s mission is to ensure legal and lived equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer families, and for those who wish to form them, through building community, changing hearts and minds, and driving policy change.

We envision a future where all LGBTQ+ families, regardless of creation or composition, live in communities that recognize, respect, protect and value them. We envision a world in which everyone has the right and the opportunity to form and sustain a loving family, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, national origin, geography, socioeconomic status, disability, or the intersection of those characteristics. Finally, we envision systems of service and support that are free of discrimination and that maximize opportunities for LGBTQ youth needing permanency and LGBTQ adults seeking family formation through adoption, foster care, assisted reproductive technology or other means.

Internship Summary:

Family Week in Provincetown, MA is the largest global gathering of LGBTQ+-headed families and features numerous opportunities to build community and promote empowerment on today’s issues. For over 27 summers, LGBTQ+ parents, their children, extended families, and their friends have gathered at the tip of iconic Cape Cod to create connections that truly last a lifetime, taking home experiences that help us further join together to make the world a better place for all loving families.

The Family Week Program Interns are an integral part of the Program Team and play a hands-on role in the planning and implementation of Family Week. This internship involves community outreach, event planning and execution, use of social media, fundraising, and much more. Success in this position requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to problem solve independently, a strong skill set with data and spreadsheets, a team-oriented mindset, highly developed communication skills (written and verbal), superior interpersonal skills, and a commitment to social justice … and fun!

Internship Period and Compensation:

  • The internship is 16 hours/week for the 5 weeks leading up to Family Week (Monday, June 17th - Friday, July 26th)
  • Working hours would be determined between the intern and supervisor and would take place between the hours of 9-5, M-F in the intern's time zone.
  • Interns will join the 2024 Family Equality staffing team in the on-site execution of our signature event, Family Week, in Provincetown, MA, on or before July 27th to August 3rd.
  • Travel, lodging and meals during Family Week are provided for interns by Family Equality.
  • The interns will be compensated with a stipend of $3,500 (may be paid in two parts: $1,000 near the start and $2,500 after internship is completed, aligned with Family Equality's payroll pay dates)
  • While we make every effort to keep onsite working hours as efficient as possible, please note that some work days can last up to 10-12 hours during Family Week
  • Interns will participate in a post-Family Week debrief via Zoom in early August and that will conclude their internship duties.
