Description

Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization urging U.S. decision makers to do all they can to pursue a world without hunger. Our mission is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world. Our internship program enables you to contribute your efforts to this mission while benefiting from opportunities for supervised learning, personal development, and gain work experience.

DEPARTMENT:   General Programs 

REPORTS TO:    Minister for Spiritual Formation and Wellness

SEMESTER:        Summer  (June 3 - August 30, 2024)

SCHEDULE:        Part-time: up to 15 hours per week

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  The intern will work with the minister for spiritual formation and wellness to support Bread for the World staff and members in creating prayer and worship opportunities, developing messaging and materials that ground Bread's work in our Christian identity, and creating programs focused on training, recreation, and wellness for staff. This internship brings together both the work of an advocacy organization with the ministry work of preaching, liturgy, and worship, program planning, and community building activities of ministry.

Primary responsibilities for this role will include a combination of the following:

  • Assisting with creating written materials.
  • Participating in department meetings. 
  • Assisting with managing spiritual and wellness projects as requested.  

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Pursuing a bachelor or master level degree.
  • Experience in a church context or with some religion classes or training.
  • Some experience with writing prayers and worship liturgies. 
  • Be detail-oriented, flexible, organized and able to meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite, database software and Internet research.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (written, oral, and electronic).
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Commitment to the mission of Bread for the World.
