JOB SUMMARY:

The Salvation Army National Headquarters is looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working intern to work up to 21 hours per week with a desire to gain working experience and skills in building, updating, and maintaining websites as part of the national community relations and development team at National Headquarters. This opportunity provides hands-on learning directly related to website design, content, and optimization. Projects include, but are not limited to:

·         Assist in maintaining the national website, salvationarmyusa.org including optimizing content sections and layouts based of wireframes, deploying national campaign assets and additional site content, assist in refining user experience through audit findings, and other duties as they relate to the national website.

·         Analyze site performance and user experience across a network of internal sites, indexing and/or implementing findings

Works with the Web Manager to update, design and optimize internal and external-facing websites.

Assists in the creation of content and digital assets for the website(s) as directed.

Attends webmaster field calls and website vendor calls, when available.

Provides user support and technical assistance to salvationarmyusa.org and sub-site visitors and associated Salvation Army staff.

Works with the Web Manager to identify new strategies and areas of improvement for national web development efforts.

Follows organizational style guide on all materials and communications.

May assist in other web communications projects, as assigned.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensures all files are maintained in an organized and efficient manner.

Performs other related work as required and assigned by immediate supervisor and/or the section head and/or department heads. Must demonstrate dependability through attendance and punctuality.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Junior/Senior undergraduate student pursuing a degree in web design, web development, digital marketing, or a related field.

Previous experience working in a professional office setting preferred.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

A valid driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of UX and web design.

Basic HTM, CSS and Javascript knowledge.

Experience working in Content Management Systems (CMS).

Proficiency in basic Photoshop or photo editing software.

Proficiency with Office 365 suite and other remote collaboration tools.

Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work within a team.

Ability to gather, compile, and assemble information into a final professional appearance product.

Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.

Ability to determine the most effective and efficient method to accomplish work objectives and goals and to work under minimal supervision.

Ability to maintain the confidential nature of the department.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate the English language.

Demonstrated research and analytical skills

Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines.

Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a normal office environment at the Salvation Army Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather, but with occasional discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. This position will be mostly at a desk using a computer with minimal physical exertion.
