Stimson Center (Stimson), a nonpartisan global security think tank located in Washington, DC, seeks a Digital Media and Events Specialist Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications. About the Program and Position Summary

The Stimson Center, a global foreign policy think tank promoting international security, shared prosperity, and justice, seeks a full-time Digital Media and Events Specialist. This role will work comprehensively to build strategic events and video products that demonstrate Stimson's creativity, dynamism, and unparalleled research and analysis. The Communications department provides strategic guidance and support on the development and delivery of research publications, events, video, media engagement, and digital tools that demonstrate Stimson's thought leadership and analysis in timely, creative, and engaging ways. The Digital Media and Events Specialist role will work closely across both the Communications and Research departments to develop timely short-form video products that highlight our work and expertise, as well as plan, host, and execute live in-person, digital, and hybrid events from our studio space at Stimson headquarters. In addition, the role will look holistically at event and video delivery and promotion, to include event email marketing, paid promotional strategies, and digital media strategies to drive maximum engagement with Stimson video products and events.

Responsibilities:

The Digital Media and Events Specialist will primarily:

  • Develop, plan, and execute in-person, virtual, and hybrid public events, using the Stimson studio space for in-person and hybrid event execution
  • Conceptualize, produce, and edit video products
  • Create the email marketing and digital media strategies to promote our event and video products
  • Post and update website content, and
  • Maintain and use analytics to inform team decision making.

In addition, all members of the Communications team regularly:

  • Manage the institution's publication pipeline,
  • Execute/assist with other aspects of the mass email program,
  • Provide advice and guidance to policy teams on how best to reach target audiences,
  • Collaborate with Development and the President's office on special projects,
  • Work closely with policy teams to plan and execute research product releases,
  • Respond to ad hoc requests from colleagues,
  • Supervise interns, and
  • Provide backup and support to their fellow team members as needed.

Qualifications - required:

  • Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of professional experience in communications, issue advocacy, electoral/political campaigns, public relations, or similar.
  • Demonstrated interest in US foreign policy, international security, or any of Stimson's programmatic work.
  • Experience and comfort with graphic design and video/audio editing software. Specifically: One of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, or XD, and/or one of Adobe Premier Pro, Premier Rush, After Effects, or Audition.
  • Ability to quickly learn and use new technology tools and software.
  • Self-starter attitude and collaborative team spirit.
  • Excellent writing and strong presentation skills.

Qualifications - preferred:

  • Experience and comfort with live streaming software like OBS, VMix, etc.
  • A plus: Experience with WordPress, MailChimp, Google Analytics, Airtable, or similar tools and databases, and strong Excel skills.
