We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Manager to join our Communications and Marketing team at our Central Office in Clarendon (Arlington), Virginia (DC-metro area). We are especially interested in hiring those with a background in special education. CEC is a hybrid office with three days in office and two days remote. We are open to full-time remote for the right candidate.

The Communications Manager, under the supervision of the Director of Communications and Publications, is responsible for the coordination of information relating to the member experience in support of communications goals and objectives in member engagement and retention.

Area of Focus

Member Experience: Support the development and deployment of a member engagement communication strategy that is personalized, unique and will deepen the connection between CEC and its members. Collaborate across CEC to share CEC’s values and offerings into the member experience and close the gap between the services members value and the experience CEC delivers. Gather analytics from member feedback surveys, member renewals, social media, and online community platforms to learn more about members and their needs.

  • Collaborate with CEC staff and volunteers to develop targeted communication strategies, plans and campaigns to promote the value of CEC membership and experiences to members.
  • In collaboration with multiple teams, write, design and deploy member communications to share information about CEC, its value, its products, and its messaging. This may include newsletter articles, blog posts, emails, etc.
  • Maintain awareness of issues relevant to the special education profession and identify services and programs that align with the professional needs of current CEC members. 
  • Support efforts to yield relevant, compelling and differentiated communications for a diverse base of members, including students, early career teachers and experienced professionals
  • Advise staff on strategies to repurpose content and resources through multiple channels.
  • Oversee Special Education TODAY and Other Routine Newsletters, act as editor for weekly Special Education Today e-newsletter and media roundup.
  • Oversee Development of future Communication Tools, such as podcast, vlog, etc 
  • Assist Director in being a resource to staff, volunteers, CEC Components, and others who communicate with members.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Membership Operations Manager on maximizing the engagement of the CEC Community (Higher Logic platform) in support of delivering a seamless and engaging online member community and experience.

  • Education: A bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: A minimum of four years related experience in special education, communication, and/or membership.
  • Ability: A strong communicator, who is good with words and sharing information in different ways. A demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, maintain records and keep materials organized, attend to details with accuracy, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar platforms, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience: Past work and experience in education settings, especially special education

Work is performed primarily at a desk using a computer.  Long periods of sitting and using a computer screen are required.

Salary Range: $70,000.00 – 80,000.00 Annually
