In this multifaceted role, the Land Conservation Manager oversees the natural resources on TNC preserves throughout northern Florida, working closely with preserve managers to develop and evaluate land management plans. They supervise contractors, ensuring that all contractual obligations are met, and oversee wildland prescribed fire planning and execution. Additionally, they coordinate with the Florida Fire Program Director on state and regional fire priorities, and safely implement integrated pest management protocols. The Manager seeks and manages stewardship grants, represents TNC on conservation issues, and assists with biological and ecological monitoring projects. They also lead field program projects, manage preserve operations and facilities, supervise staff and volunteers, and provide support to other departments as needed, ensuring the successful implementation of TNC's conservation priorities in the NFL region.

Housing and basic utilities, except for telephone/internet, may be provided in a Conservancy residence in Bristol, FL. This position functions as a part of the land management team to maintain, enhance and restore threatened and imperilled ecosystems in the central Florida landscape.

    

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  •     Bachelor’s degree in life sciences/natural resource management and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •     NWCG qualified as Incident Commander Type Four (ICT4) or higher (State-certified burn managers with 50+ bossed burns and 5 years of burn boss experience are encouraged to apply).
  •     1 year experience managing staff or volunteers and training others.
  •     Ability to obtain NWCG RXB2 within 9 months of hire and be able to show documentation related to prerequisite positions and task books.
  •     Certified Florida Prescribed Burn Manager in good standing or ability to obtain certification within 9 months.
  •     Capable of passing the annual NWCG arduous pack test.

     


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  •     8-10 years of Natural Resource Management and Wildland Fire Operations Experience.
  •     3 years of experience maintaining and operating off-road 4x4 vehicles (including pulling trailers), ATV’s, tractors, riding mowers and ability to teach same.
  •     Active Wilderness First-Responder Certification/CPR Certificate.
  •     1 year experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
  •     1 year experience using GIS applications such ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, Avenza.
  •     Boat and trailer operation knowledge and experience.
  •     Multi-lingual communication skills.
  •     Knowledge of Northern Florida natural communities, especially sandhills, upland pine, flatwoods, bottomland/alluvial forests, etc.
  •     Knowledge of listed/locally important species of North Florida and experience managing habitats to promote population recovery.
  •     Experience in implementing scientifically based restoration strategies for groundcover and mid-story/canopy species, preferably within the Southeastern Coastal Plain.
  •     Florida Certified Pesticide Applicator License in good standing or ability to obtain certification.

    

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $65,000 - $75,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
