Description

The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) was founded in 1982 to feed those who are hungry in the Trenton area and offer programs to encourage self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life. In the 40 years since then, TASK has expanded to offer a wide range of supportive programs and serve over 8,000 meals each week at its Escher Street location and through its network of partner organizations. As a result, TASK has become a trusted leader in addressing hunger and poverty across the Trenton region. With an annual budget of $6 million, a dedicated staff of 40, and countless volunteers, TASK is a dynamic organization providing essential services to our neighbors in need. 

We are hiring a Full Time Volunteer Coordinator.

Position Title: Volunteer Coordinator

Reports To: Chief Innovation and Programs Officer

Classification: Full-time, Salaried

Salary Range: $52,500 - $62,500

Schedule: Full Time 38 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday. This role requires flexibility for evening, weekend, and holiday commitments.

Position Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator plays a critical role in the heart of our organization, responsible for the recruitment, training, scheduling, and retention of volunteers. This role is designed to ensure a rewarding experience for volunteers while effectively meeting the operational needs of our programs. The coordinator is pivotal in developing volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of service, aiming to build and nurture a robust, dedicated volunteer base that is well-integrated, supported, and valued within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Volunteer Management:

• Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for volunteers.

• Develop, implement, and maintain volunteer job descriptions, matching volunteers with positions that suit their skills and interests.

• Ensure all volunteer activities support the organization's services, including special events and program operations.

Training and Development:

• Design and deliver comprehensive training programs and workshops for volunteers.

• Facilitate ongoing learning opportunities to enhance volunteer skills, knowledge, and contribution.

Scheduling and Placement:

• Manage volunteer scheduling, ensuring activities and events are adequately staffed.

• Optimize volunteer placement to maximize satisfaction and contribution.

Community Engagement and Recruitment:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, providing support and guidance.

• Represent the organization in community forums to enhance recruitment and engagement.

Event Management and Recognition:

• Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events.

• Implement recognition programs to retain volunteers and acknowledge their contributions.

Policy, Compliance, and Administration:

• Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the volunteer program, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational standards.

• Maintain accurate volunteer records and assist in the preparation of reports on volunteer activities and program effectiveness.

• Collaborate with other departments to provide access to volunteer schedules and participation data, ensuring that volunteer information aligns with TASK's strategic goals, facilitating the availability of accurate volunteer data.

Communication:

• Facilitate effective communication between volunteers and the organization.

• Collaborate with Development & Marketing to ensure that messaging is consistent with TASK’s brand and voice.

Necessary Skills and Abilities:

• Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.

• Proficiency in organizing, multitasking, problem-solving, and digital tools for scheduling and communication.

• Ability to inspire, motivate, and manage volunteers, working independently and as part of a team.

• Proficient in the use of digital tools for scheduling, communication, and record-keeping.

Required Credentials:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

• Proven experience in volunteer management or coordination within a nonprofit environment.
