  • Write proposals and reports for grant opportunities from private foundations and corporations.
  • Assemble and submit all aspects of grant proposals and reports, including narratives, administrative information, budgets, and presentations.
  • Review and maintain grant agreements to ensure terms, metrics, and deadlines are met in a timely manner, and provide program updates as necessary.

Major Gifts & Donor Support

  • Write and produce correspondence and support materials with donors with the intent to retain or upgrade giving when possible.
  • Correspond with donors when appropriate, prepare letters of acknowledgment, and schedule and attend in-person meetings/virtual calls.
  • Conduct research for new funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, individuals, and other nongovernmental agencies.

Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years of experience as a professional writer in a nonprofit organization or in the field of journalism.
  • Knowledge of the grant application and writing process in a nonprofit setting.
  • Ability to write about complex topics in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.
  • Experience researching and soliciting foundations with open grant opportunities.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, multiple projects, and competing priorities.
  • Self-motivated; works independently and effectively in a home office or virtual environment.
  • Expertise in Google Suite (Calendar, Sheets, Docs, and Drive), Microsoft Office, and Salesforce.
  • A keen interest in press freedom and First Amendment rights.
