Description

Licensed Veterinary Technician – Overnight

Summary:

Animal Care Centers of NYC, the city’s only open admission animal shelter, is open 24 hours for emergency intakes.  Our city agency partners may bring in animals that are injured, sick, abandoned or victims of cruelty and many need medical attention.  They come in all shapes, sizes, and walk, slither, crawl and hop.  Working with the on-call veterinarian, the overnight LVT ensures that these patients get the support they require for a successful outcome.  This role necessitates   advanced technical knowledge as you are the eyes and ears for the doctor who is managing the cases remotely.

In addition, you will assist in the provision of emergent care for any animal residing in the shelter that may need attention overnight, including animals in our advanced treatment facility that may be critical care cases.  You manage treatment plan of hospitalized patients, performs diagnostics (x-ray, in-house laboratory) and obtains sampling (blood, swabbing), administers medications via all routes, and may need to assist in emergency procedures.   Must be a self-starter with the ability to think critically in order to be a stakeholder in the patients’ treatment plans. Works well independently but as part of a team to ensure timely, quality medical care for all animals in the shelter.

This position will intially be in our Manhattan Care Center and move to our new 40,000 sq. ft. shelter in Queens that boasts an urgent care, public facing clinic opening mid 2024.  The Queens shelter has oxygen cages, advanced diagnostics and we have designed a Fear Free™️ space.

Top 3 reasons our LVT's like working at ACC:

  1. Our mission of helping homeless animals who otherwise would not have the care they need and deserve. We get to care for animals that have no one, and with our services we help get them someone.
  2. Coworkers are more like family. It’s a great environment to work in despite how busy it can get.
  3. Interesting and multiplex cases that are rare to see anywhere else, and you don’t have to go over estimates or discuss billing with any client.  On the overnight, you will have very little interaction with the public !

Salary and Benefits:

$30 - $33/hour.  4, ten-hour work days that may include a weekend night.  Shift is 8pm to 6 am

ACC values work/life balance and offers a generous paid-time-off (PTO) package that includes vacation time, birthdays off, personal days, 8 paid holidays and sick pay.
