Description

Job summary: The Deputy Director will provide key leadership and organizational support to GHF. They will develop and implement new operations, evaluation, and human resources processes and procedures to improve organizational and program management. They will also support a wide variety of administrative and fundraising responsibilities.

The Deputy Director will be a thought partner to the Executive Director in how to best manage a small, efficient organization and to enable the board and staff to reach their strategic goals. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented strategist with a high tolerance for internal processes. Commitment to anti-racist, intersectional work is a must.

Responsibilities include:

The Deputy Director works in close coordination with the Executive Director to:

Leadership and administration:

  • Participate in strategic planning and analysis to support GHF’s growth and development as an organization
  • Ensure that programs comply with all contractual, reporting, and related requirements
  • Oversee quality data collection across all programs and initiatives, while streamlining reporting load among staff  
  • Prepare reports and impact data to provide insight to internal and external stakeholders, as well as inform future program design
  • Support the leadership of GHF’s Board of Directors, including by preparing agendas and materials for meetings, participating in BOD meetings, and supporting committee activities
  • Participate in planning and coordination of GHF’s signature Health Care Unscrambled event and summer fundraising/friend-raising event
  • Represent GHF externally by attending meetings, conferences, and other convenings

Operations and process improvements:

  • Document and update standards of practice for high priority tasks and activities
  • Identify opportunities for workflow and process improvements, and research and implement solutions
  • Identify and implement project management protocols and practices
  • Manages office facilities, equipment, and supplies, including coordinating with building management and vendors
  • Coordinate with IT contractor to purchase/maintain computers, software, or other equipment

Human Resources

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to conduct staff planning, team design, career progression and resource allocation
  • Lead hiring processes for open or newly-established positions
  • Manage on-boarding and training processes for newly-hired staff
  • Support staff team in hiring and onboarding new interns
  • Carry out staff recognition activities
  • Identify and coordinate opportunities for team-based and individual professional development among staff (and board members as needed)
  • Coordinate annual staff retreat, including soliciting input for agendas, identifying facilitator(s), and coordinating logistics
  • Oversee employee benefits plans, including annual renewal/change processes

Finance and fundraising

  • Assist Exec. Dir. with annual budgeting process and creation of fundraising plans and strategies
  • Oversee regular financial activities and operations: prepare and process vendor payments and invoices weekly; review and process expense reports from staff; support the preparation of monthly financial records
  • Work with the Exec. Dir. to monitor and manage all program budgets
  • Assist Exec. Dir. with grant tracking, billing expenses to grants appropriately, and prepare financial reports
  • Lead individual donor cultivation, maintenance, and recognition activities
  • Write and review annual impact report for content and accuracy

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to interpret and connect programmatic and organizational needs to resource planning
  • Ability to identify and analyze organizational needs to guide and direct staff to meet program and administrative requirements
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to look at processes/tasks with an eye towards innovation
  • Demonstrated experience conducting monitoring and evaluation activities to ensure program quality
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, board members, funders/donors, volunteers, and other key stakeholders
  • Strong ability to manage to deadlines and follow up as necessary
  • Highly reliable and punctual
  • Comfortable making tough strategic decisions

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, non-profit management, public administration, or related field
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of professional work experience with progressive levels of responsibility, including supervisory and program management experience
  • Work experience in government, public health, health care, and/or human services programs, policy, and/or advocacy is a plus

 

Working Conditions

Works regularly in general office environment, with remote work flexibilities. Some evening or weekend hours may be required. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.

 GHF’s office is located at 50 Hurt Plaza SE, Suite 1130, Atlanta, GA 30303. Applicants must have reliable transportation to/from GHF’s office.

 

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this full-time position is $85,000-$90,000, depending on experience. Medical, dental, and vision insurance will be provided. GHF also offers a retirement benefit.
