One Pennsylvania is seeking highly motivated and outgoing potential organizers to join our canvassing team either in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. Our canvassing work includes reaching out to community members about our work, our campaigns, and our theory of change. 

This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Canvass Director. Canvassers work up to 35 hours per week.

Location: Pittsburgh or Philadelphia

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Educate and engage voters through door-to-door canvassing, street outreach, and phone banking. 
  • Recruit people to the work of OnePA, its mission, programs and campaigns
  • Help Canvass Director with 1 of 4 realms of focus: staff development, campaign management, recruitment and retention, or foundations
  • Build positive relationships with community residents and potential One PA members. 
  • Meet all daily goals and metrics set by the Civic Engagement Director. 
  • Support Director with training and development of temporary staff, members, and volunteers. 
  • Manage the quality of our outreach programs. 
  • Effectively use technology and other tools to ensure accurate and timely data entry. 
  • Participate and complete all required training and workshops. 
  • Assist the Canvass Director with recruiting a strong canvass team.
  • Lead Crews of temporary staff/ members/ volunteers to fill door to door, Phone bank or street canvassing shifts. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 18 years old. Must have a working smartphone and be tech-savvy
  • Desire to work in communities of color, low-income communities, and LGBTQIA communities to create political change. 
  • At least 4 months of canvassing experience; preference for those with experience managing teams/crews. More experience may qualify candidates for additional leadership positions 
  • Is a “people person”, has strong interpersonal skills, is comfortable approaching new people, and able to handle rejection 
  • Possess strong communication skills (in person & over the phone); able to move and motivate people to action. 
  • Comfortable walking or standing for extended periods of time and working outside and in different weather conditions
  • Must have transportation to various work sites around your assigned office; preference for licensed and insured drive
  • Skilled at working within a team; able to collaborate with diverse teams
  • Strong work ethic and takes initiative; able to handle multiple responsibilities 

COMPENSATION: 

Salary of $45,000 annually and benefits including optional 401K plan (with contributions beginning after six months of employment), generous paid time off, and fully paid health insurance.
