Position Overview:

The AmeriCorps Community Technology Empowerment Project (CTEP) works to bridge the "digital divide" for low-income communities in the Minneapolis / St. Paul Metro area. CTEP AmeriCorps members work with adults, youth, seniors, BIPOC, new Americans and other historically disenfranchised people to learn the technology skills they need to access economic, social, health, and civic opportunities on line. CTEP AmeriCorps members serve at any one of our up to 15 non-profit and community based organizations, receive professional development and technical training, as well as support for your career goals after service.

Opportunities to Serve:

CTEP's partners are some of the top non-profit organizations in the Twin Cities and are located in or close to the communities whether they are young adults looking to build skills, adults looking for jobs, new Americans seeking education or seniors want to learn computer skills. You can apply to more than one position based on your interests. Be sure to read through the list of individual opportunities on our website at www.spnn.org/ctep.

Applicants can choose whether to serve in a Full-Time (FT), Three-Quarter-Time (TQT) or Half-Time (HT) capacity:

Full-time - serve a minimum of 1,700 hours in a 12 month period. This equates to approx. 35 hours per week Three-Quarter-Time - serve a minimum of 1,200 hours in a 12 month period. This equates to approx. 25 hours per week

Half-Time - serve a minimum of 900 hours in a 12 month period or approx. 19 hours per week

Most positions are Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm however each site may have different hours based on the programs they offer.

What You Get to Do:

  • Learn how to teach others about technology literacy (e.g. how to use email, how to format a document in Word or Google Docs, find Facebook, apply for a job, navigate the internet safely, tell stories using a smart phone) using the Northstar Digital Literacy Assessments
  • Help those interested to get ready for a skill assessment and oversee the test. Celebrate with them when they pass!
  • At the halfway mark of your service, embark on guided project development that helps your host site to keep helping others after your service ends.
  • Be a part of a cohort that annually certifies over 1,500 community members in technology literacy. Many of these folks find better paying jobs because of the certification they received.
  • Build relationships with community members and encourage people to reach personal and professional goals.

What We Do:

  • Match you with a host site that fits your interests, skills, and goals
  • Provide monthly professional training facilitated by local experts and non-profit leaders
