Description

SUMMARY:

The Director, Operations is responsible for maintaining infrastructure oversight, office management (virtual and in person as needed), IT, and general human resources with some finance responsibility, while collaborating across the organization between various departments and teams. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and has one direct report, Manager, Operations & Finance. This is a fully remote position, but the individual will be expected to work with teams based in New York City and Washington, DC.

Salary range:  $95,000 -- $110,000

ABOUT OCRA

Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) is the largest non-government funder of ovarian cancer research and has invested more than $122 million in research since its founding. OCRA fights ovarian cancer from all fronts, including in the lab and on Capitol Hill, and through innovative programs to support patients and their families.

OCRA’s ongoing investments in the most promising scientific research are funding discoveries, creating new treatments, and hastening desperately needed breakthroughs. OCRA is the voice for the ovarian cancer community, working with legislators to ensure federal ovarian cancer research and education, patient safety, and access to high-quality care are protected on Capitol Hill. OCRA’s programs help people navigate their diagnosis and support patients and their families when and where they need it most.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

  • Serve as main operations point of contact for all staff, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations of the organization.
  • Manage relationships with external partners and vendors.
  • Work collaboratively with tech consultant to manage all technology needs including maintenance, equipment requests and tech support.
  • Oversee insurance compliance and renewals.
  • Manage physical office space in Washington, DC, including lease renewals, equipment needs and utilities.
  • Oversee all administrative and home office purchases.
  • Plan and support organization-wide events, including team building events, town hall, staff retreats, etc.
  • Manage shared organizational calendar.

Human Resources

  • Oversee organization’s recruitment and selection process in coordination with department heads, ensuring a diverse talent pool.
  • Manage employee onboarding/offboarding including orientation.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with required staff trainings (e.g., cybersecurity training, sexual harassment training).
  • Develop, update and maintain operations and employee manuals.
  • Ensure state by state compliance for remote workers in conjunction with payroll company.
  • Serve as liaison with payroll company for payroll administration, time tracking, and PTO policies.
  • Oversee employee benefits and serve as liaison with relevant companies.
  • Ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion practices are incorporated throughout all policy, program, and process development.

Finance

  • Work in partnership with outsourced accounting team to provide information and supporting documentation to ensure the books are accurately kept and timely reporting is produced. While not a finance position, general knowledge of non-profit finance and financial reporting is preferred.
  • Collaborate with outsourced accounting team to plan, coordinate, and manage annual operating budget.  
  • Work with departmental teams to develop budgets and projections and engage with them to monitor budgets throughout the year.
  • Support annual audit and tax filings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ verifiable experience in operations and human resource management or in a related managerial role within a nonprofit.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Detail oriented and organized, with strong ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Extensive computer skills, including intermediate or higher-level proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience working with electronic databases.
  • Salesforce and QuickBooks experience strongly preferred.
  • Must be mission-driven with a strong interest in improving social good.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and project management skills.
  • Commitment to professional ethics in working with confidential, sensitive information.

This is a fully remote position with occasional travel required.
