Salary Range:  $112,500- $125,000, (Benefits includes Medical, Dental, Vision, and Paid time-off)

JOB SUMMARY:

LEAP is seeking a dynamic, results-driven, multi-level team leader to play a pivotal role in leading the strategic direction, management, and oversight of our comprehensive arts-centered K-8 afterschool programs in New York City schools. The Senior Managing Director, Afterschool Programs will be responsible for co-designing, leading, and implementing the programmatic vision and strategic direction with a strong focus on promoting academic enrichment, social emotional learning, creative arts experiences, and building positive and sustainable school partnerships. 

The Senior Managing Director, Afterschool Programs will demonstrate  operational leadership, with a proven ability to do both high-level strategic work as well as hands-on and pragmatic project completion. They will also develop and lead a successful multi-level team, while collaborating with all departments to inform program strategy and decisions and ensure fidelity to the LEAP program model. With a focus on effective communication, relationship-building, and well-developed organizational systems, the Senior Managing Director, Afterschool Programs will adeptly manage both seasoned professionals and those at entry level. Their leadership will accelerate and amplify the impact of direct reports and their teams.

The Senior Managing Director, Afterschool Programs will report to  the Executive Director and collaborate closely with the Senior Management Team. They must be a team player who demonstrates cross collaboration between programs to ensure plans are coordinated and resources are optimized for the highest impact programs. This position is ideal for individuals who are highly organized, self-motivated, and creative problem-solvers with a commitment to positive youth development and social justice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Program Leadership (40% of focus)

  • Establish a clear vision for the afterschool programs through inclusive planning and communications that ensure understanding and ownership of initiatives
  • Lead all aspects of planning, launching, and maintaining afterschool program projects, including school partnerships, staffing, budgeting, program design, and implementation.
  • Communicate and implement an effective program design that uses data to assess performance and impact and is implemented with consistency, fun, and ensures best practices in positive youth development.
  • Provide ongoing leadership, motivation, and quality assessment through regular presence in programs. 
  • Oversee the transition of new initiatives from design through program launch.
  • Lead the completion of DYCD Work Scopes, DYCD Connect deliverables, and Youth Services database requirements as well as other external tracking and reporting requirements.
  • Support Managing Directors and other Managers by sharing expertise and best practices in arts-integration, youth development practices and frameworks, and school partnership strategies.
  • Review qualitative and quantitative data and analysis to assess programs and use this information to inform program management, training, and direction. 
  • Collaborate with the People and Culture Department to ensure that all programs are adequately staffed to achieve their goals and performance targets.
  • Work with colleagues and afterschool managing directors to ensure compliance with LEAP's and funders' policies and that any disciplinary or other action taken is in compliance with disciplinary policy and procedures.
  • Work with Finance and afterschool Managing Directors to develop program budgets and ensure programs adhere to sustainable plans and processes.
  • Lead afterschool Managing Directors and site leadership in ensuring the health and safety of program participants, according to Department of Health (DOH) and SACC license  requirements and ensure proper reporting of all incidents according to all governing policies.
  • Ensure the compliance of all Federal, State, City and LEAP’s security and privacy policies intended to protect the security and privacy of program participants and staff.
  • Lead consistency and best practices in the monitoring and tracking of enrollment and daily attendance to ensure that the program is meeting all youth participation requirements .
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of reports and statistical information for Board, Senior Management  Team and funder use.
  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve Afterschool Program Team goals 
  • Research potential new program development initiatives and assess viability for Afterschool Programs.

Team Leadership & Management (40% of focus)

  • Lead, supervise, and support Managing Directors of K-8 Afterschool Programs, shaping the organization's strategic direction and fostering alignment with community needs and school curricula.  
  • Motivate and coach Managing Directors and colleagues to enhance program development and implementation, communication, collaboration, and effectiveness, contributing to program performance, and effectiveness.
  • Examine and utilize best practices to build afterschool team infrastructure
  • Assess and streamline roles and responsibilities based on team workflow analysis
  • Develop the strategy for and facilitate program professional development activities and ensure constructive feedback for staff. 
  • Lead and support teams in organizing cross program events and activities.
  • Champion and model relationships with all funders and governing agencies from NYC DYCD, NYS OCFS, NYC Public Schools, ExpandEd, and other critical partners and agencies
  • Foster a team culture that aligns with LEAP’s culture statement and promotes excellence, accountability, and equity.

Organizational Collaboration and Relationship Management  (20% of focus)

  • Organize and lead cross-departmental work group in developing creative solutions to address afterschool challenges
  • Forge and maintain strong and positive partnerships with school leadership and staff, community members, and key personnel within school administration for the Afterschool Programs.
  • Champion and lead meetings with school leadership and classroom teachers to assess school needs, implement programming, share evaluation tools, and oversee quality delivery.
  • Facilitate collaborative efforts between the Afterschool Managing Directors and other departments such as Arts Residencies, Finance and Operations, People and Culture, and Development and Communications to successfully achieve aligned organizational goals
  • Partner with Development and Communications to develop proposals and reports, promote  program celebrations, host program visits, and engage in other Fundraising activities for Afterschool Programs.
  • Represent LEAP leadership in agreements and various forums with other organizations and contractors

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience leading a significant portfolio of  high quality afterschool programs in New York City Public Schools
  • Bachelor’s Degree required with additional degree or certifications in education, youth development, arts administration, or human services a plus
  • Proven record of motivating and accountable leadership of a large team of program professionals 
  • Inspiring and effective leadership and supervisory skills that motivate teams and individuals
  • Experience designing and implementing a sizable portfolio of afterschool programs with attention to positive youth development, quality implementation, and measurable outcomes - creative program models and arts-based programming is a plus
  • Experience setting goals, designing plans, tracking progress, and supporting teams to achieve goals
  • Experience in building and implementing training plans for program teams to ensure quality and promote staff growth and development
  • Adept at analyzing program data to inform design, plan training, and demonstrate impact
  • Strong belief in the principles of positive youth development and the ability to model and impart these principles to the program leadership and teams
  • Past partnership experience with  Development leading to successful fundraising outcomes
  • Demonstrate a clear passion for LEAP's Mission, Vision, and Theory of Change
