Description

The National Partnership for Women & Families is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization that fights for equity for all women and families. We’re passionate about making change on big issues such as equal pay for all women, paid leave for working families and transforming our healthcare system so it effectively serves women and families with dignity and respect–including providing high quality abortion, maternal, and other reproductive care. We advocate on the Hill and for federal, state and local policy.


We are seeking a Health Justice Policy Associate to support the health justice team across three portfolios (maternal health, reproductive health and rights; health system transformation) on executing projects and deliverables.


The Health Justice Policy Associate position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Managing Director, Health Justice. The National Partnership is a hybrid organization where a majority of staff are required to report to the office a minimum four (4) days a month.


Responsibilities:

  • Support functioning of health justice team across three portfolios (maternal health, reproductive health and rights; health system transformation) on executing projects and deliverables;
  • Contribute to tracking and reporting of health policy developments (e.g., participating in webinars, coalition meetings, sharing notes, documenting updates etc.);
  • Support the production of written work products, such as fact sheets, issue briefs, talking points, coalition emails, and presentations, for dissemination to the Administration, Capitol Hill and coalition partners. Activities include policy and factual research, limited drafting of sections, data and cite checking, editing, and proofreading;
  • Assist team members with additional external research and data requests;
  • Provide coordination and logistical support for the organization’s patient and consumer Advisory Councils, including developing meeting materials and nurturing relationships with Council members;
  • Manage administration of the Women’s Health Defense Table coalition, including meeting logistics, maintaining the listserv, and coordinating agendas;
  • Draft the Repro Health Watch, a weekly email digest designed to give readers the most important reproductive health, rights, and justice news of the week, which is distributed to 100,000+ subscribers;
  • Assist with grant management activities, including tracking activities, contributing to and proofreading written reports, presenting findings, and submitting necessary paperwork;
  • Contribute to the strategic thinking of the team and the generation of new ideas and approaches to achieving health justice;
  • Provide the Health Justice team with administrative support including managing the Vice President’s calendar and assisting with expense reports, providing logistics and scheduling support for meetings, events, and webinars, and assisting with organizing and maintaining files and spreadsheets and other tools to help keep the team organized and productive;
  • Support the hiring of Health Justice team interns;
  • Participate in organization’s ongoing internal change processes and racial equity work


Qualifications:

The candidate must possess:

  • Knowledge and/or experience (1-2 years, broadly defined) working on health justice issues, applying an equity lens and analysis in work products, and/or working in coalitions with other advocates and advisors;
  • Strong research and writing skills and ability to produce high-quality materials in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Desire and ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse groups of people in a collaborative environment - both internally and externally;
  • Commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice that incorporates intersectional identities;
  • Commitment to working on issues related to health justice, reproductive health rights and justice (including abortion access), maternal and infant health, and health system transformation;
  • Ability to give and receive feedback within the workplace in a respectful and constructive manner; and
  • Substantial experience with relevant office technology and platforms, including Microsoft suite, Zoom and Google suite;
  • Experience working with InDesign or Asana a plus


Classification

The National Partnership recognizes a staff bargaining unit, National Partnership United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in the NP United bargaining unit. Specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.


Salary and Benefits

The minimum salary starts at $60,214 with exact salary based on total relevant experience. The National Partnership provides a generous benefits package that includes three weeks annual vacation time, paid sick time, paid federal holidays plus the last week of December, health, dental, and vision coverage, 403B and SEP-IRA retirement options, and paid family and medical leave for eligible employees.


Note that accrued vacation and sick time are currently suspended for new employees while the National Partnership temporarily offers ad-hoc unlimited administrative leave for employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, recognizing that we all have a range of caregiving needs, including self-care and care for others during this challenging time.


The Health Justice Policy Associate is a full-time position based in our Washington, D.C. office. The National Partnership maintains a hybrid work environment where staff are required to be in the office a minimum of 4 days per month, with additional in-office and in-person days determined by your role and job responsibilities.

The National Partnership is a 50 person staff that fosters a collaborative culture. We have a collegial work environment. The National Partnership is committed to protecting our employees and our communities from COVID-19. Toward that goal, the National Partnership requires all employees to be fully vaccinated and completely up to date via an FDA authorized and/or approved COVID-19 vaccination. Fully Vaccinated is defined by the CDC as being 2 weeks after the final dose in a primary series of COVID-19 vaccines (2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna, 1 dose of Johnson & Johnson). Up to date means a person has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible. New employees must be fully vaccinated before their start date, and up-to-date as soon as eligible, unless an exemption due to a medical condition or a sincerely held religious belief or practice is granted.
