Position Overview

Trucha is seeking an engaging and strategic Development Director to lead and execute our fundraising development, planning and implementation in support of Trucha's mission. 

This role will serve as the primary individual accountable for managing all fundraising activities, taking a hands-on approach to implementing and concluding fundraising plans.  

As the lead strategist for fund development, this team member will craft a multi-year plan aimed at increasing revenue. This plan will serve as a guiding framework that informs and aligns with the organization’s revenue growth objectives over the next three years.

They will lead donor stewardship, department management and financial strategy. This includes managing major gifts, foundation and corporate giving, grant solicitation, and acquiring in-kind resources.

They must be dynamic, flexible, and a team player and must be able to thrive within our growing organization, while working to transform engagement throughout Texas. 

This position requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record in fundraising, relationship-building, and a deep commitment to the organization's mission.

Additionally, the Director of Development will directly oversee the hiring and ongoing supervision of a Development Associate.

The ideal candidate is expected to possess excellent organizational and leadership skills, a comprehensive understanding of development fundraising methods and frameworks, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to think strategically and operationally while implementing multiple projects simultaneously.


Key Responsibilities:

Fundraising Strategy:

  • Help set and meet Trucha’s annual revenue goals.
  • Develop and implement a strategic and diversified fundraising plan that includes  identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundation, individual, and corporate support. 

Donor Relations:

  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with major donors, individual supporters, and institutional funders ensuring timely communication, acknowledgment, and stewardship.
  • Create and execute individual donor strategies based on donor capacity and readiness to contribute, overseeing a donor portfolio.

Grant Writing:

  • Research and identify grant opportunities that align with the organization's mission and programs.
  • Lead the development and submission of foundation, corporate, federal, state, and city grant proposals, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and donor requirements.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities and strategies.
  • Facilitate team meetings involving reports with staff and partners as required.
  • Effectively communicate the impact of donor support through various channels, including reports, newsletters, and events.
  • Strengthen organizational visibility through relationship development, speaking engagements and other external opportunities. 

Technology:

  • Develop, implement and supervise the donor database, including gift entry, database management, report generation, donor cultivation, stewardship, and prospect research.
  • Be technologically adept to online communications and different applications for organizational management.

Event Planning:

  • Plan and execute fundraising events, ensuring a seamless experience for donors and participants. 
  • Explore innovative ways to engage supporters through virtual and in-person events.

Executive Team Management: 

  • Model and ensure an inclusive, welcoming, and inspiring organizational culture aligned with our values 
  • Provide Board members with the fundraising information needed to support Trucha in a meaningful way. 
  • Coordinate and lead monthly, quarterly and annual fundraising review with operational and senior management.
  • Foster an organizational understanding of philanthropy.
  • Contribute to the recruitment, hiring, training, management, and retention of fund development staff in accordance with organization protocol. 
  • Provide mentoring, professional development, and performance management of staff 

Development 

  • Develop overall fundraising strategy in collaboration with development team and Board that is aligned with programming, policy, and organizational goals and values 
  • Cultivate new, and steward existing, relationships with major donors and funding partners, building trust, communicating regularly about the organizational work, and collaborating to move our objectives forward 
  • Direct supervision of Development Associate.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate brings a track record of proven success as an empowering, adept manager with the ability to integrate into an existing team of high performers.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in fundraising, with a track record of successfully meeting or exceeding fundraising goals. 
  • Demonstrated fundraising experience through individual donor cultivation and stewardship; experience in development and grant writing, and events.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in grant writing and donor communications.
  • Strong understanding of grassroots organizing infrastructure in the region, state and/or nationally. 2+ years of experience working on campaigns and/or issue advocacy. 
  • 2+ years of nonprofit management experience at the executive leadership team level and 4+ years of managing and working with staff, interns, youth and consultants and working with a Board of Directors in a collaborative team environment. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the expert ability to establish and build strong relationships, both internally and externally with donors, staff, board, allies, etc. 
  • Strong relationships with philanthropy in the areas of arts and culture, policy, and advocacy in Texas. 
  • Confidence and sound judgment in political analysis/theory of change, willingness to take risks and push the envelope to generate results. Above average judgment and professional maturity needed to identify where and when to take those risks. 
  • Foster shared leadership, inclusive decision making, and positive relationships between the Boards of Directors, staff, volunteers, and organizational stakeholders.
  • Experience working with young adults, in communities of color, the LGBTQIA community, and/or other marginalized communities. 
  • Knowledge of multimedia content and its potential impact on social change is a plus.


HIRING DETAILS 

This is a full-time, permanent, exempt position with comprehensive benefits, including health, vision, and dental insurance, unlimited paid time off, paid sick leave, and more. The salary range is $70-73,000. The position requires willingness to travel and work some evenings and weekends.
