Description

Responsibilities

This full time position will assist the League of Women Voters of NYS, and its fundraising arm the League of Women Voters of NYS Education Foundation, in both maintaining and growing its communication and funding with members, donors, and the public. The Development and Communication Associate will assist the organizations in developing diverse and ongoing sources of financial support while managing and developing relationships with local leagues, funders, and sponsors. The responsibilities include:

Communications: 

• Coordinating and creating regular, topical, and timely content to league leaders, members, and donors to update them on activities. Communications include: social media posts, emails, press releases, etc.

• Monitor and post on the League website, which includes creating a variety of content, ensuring that the site is fresh and timely, accurate, representative of the League’s many areas of work, and engaging to a variety of audiences. 

• Maintaining and upholding the League’s branding and messaging guidelines in all digital and printed materials. 

• Share in the day-to-day operations of the organization as it relates to the duties of the position or as in the normal course of the running of the office (i.e. special projects, press conferences, logistics etc.) 

• Assist in the preparation of events, such as Students Inside Albany Conference and biennial State Convention.

Development: 

• Maintain acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors; direct appreciation mailings and phone calls for donors and sponsors.

• Oversee preparation and production of all promotional mailings, printed pieces, and web communications as related to fundraising including the annual direct mail program for both the League and Education Foundation.

• Coordinate elements of mailings and e-solicitations.

• Search for and research grant opportunities. Conduct research on foundations and other sources of funding

• Maintain grants calendar and fundraising yearly fundraising schedule 

• Assist with research, preparation, and submission of grant proposals 

• Assist with the organization’s fundraising events and campaigns

• Perform data entry and help track donations in Little Green Light. Maintain the database as it relates to gifts, biographical information, and donor visits/contacts. 

• Create a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors.

• Ability to prioritize and follow through effectively 

• Proven research skills, including the Internet and other resources, and familiarity with social media usage 

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) or similar computer applications; willingness to learn current database system (Little Green Light) and assist in maintenance of the database system. 

• Familiarity preferred but not required with Canva, Constant Contact, and social media platforms.

• Interest and commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations 

Reporting

The Development and Communications Associate reports to Executive Director.  

Hours

This is a salaried, fulltime (37.5 hours/week) with 11 paid holidays, one day per month each for vacation and sick days (first 5 years), 3 personal days per year, health insurance (75% premium) and retirement savings based on employee match (full detail of benefits as specified in the LWVNYS EF Personnel Manual).
