Product Lead

Equal Citizens is looking to hire a Product Lead to manage and direct the organization’s Create to Save Democracy project. 

Create to Save Democracy Description

In March 2024, the Equal Citizens Foundation launched a new project, Create to Save Democracy, which we believe will change the economy of reform creativity. If successful, it will create a self-sustaining ecosystem in which diverse new voices widely and effectively distribute messages of democracy reform.  

The project invites any content creator anywhere to make a video outlining a problem with American democracy and what policy or policies they’d like to see implemented to solve it. We will place all qualifying videos on our website with individual donation links. Website visitors can scroll through the videos page, find their favorites, and donate to support them. Half the donations will be used to buy ads to spread the video, while the other half will be given to the creator as a reward for their work.  

Under this model, compelling videos will generate donations, enabling us to promote them with ads, which will then generate further donations. With monetary rewards, existing creators will be incentivized to keep making content for the project, and as word spreads, new creators will be brought into the fold. 

Our goal is to get hundreds of Americans across all demographic and political backgrounds to make videos and join the movement for reform, and for these videos to reach hundreds of thousands Americans across the country.

Position Description 

The Product Lead will be responsible for leading all aspects of Create to Save Democracy. This will involve making decisions about branding, the proper networks of content creators with whom to engage and solicit submissions, the best channels to distribute submitted content, and how to leverage social media to generate enthusiasm and donations. The Project Lead will be expected to produce compelling content about the project, demonstrating to prospective creators what an ideal video looks like and tips for maximum impact. 

The ideal candidate is a social media superstar. We are looking for super-talented souls, and will compensate accordingly. To qualify, the candidate must understand how content is consumed and created in 2024 and have experience posting content and videos on TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, and any other relevant distribution platforms. The candidate should also be driven by a belief in the necessity of democracy reform and display an eagerness to learn about the various policy solutions that could make our democracy function more equitably. 

This is an ambitious project; we are looking for entrepreneurial talent to make something transformative. 

The Product Lead will report directly to the Executive Director and be assisted by digital consultants with decades of experience.

The Product Lead position is remote and open to all U.S. citizens. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Design and implement a strategic plan to jumpstart and sustain the Create to Save Democracy project.
• Execute a comprehensive digital strategy to disseminate submitted videos — including through the organization’s website, microsites, creative content, email, social media, and paid advertising.
• Identify prospective content creators who might participate in the project
• Manage relationships with content creators who submit videos, overseeing revisions and working collaboratively with creators to maximize the video reach.

MANAGEMENT

• Recruit and manage a team of volunteers and interns.
• Coordinate PR and social media efforts to maximize project reach.
• Oversee interdisciplinary outside consultants in charge of digital fundraising and advertisements
• Develop and oversee campaign budgets

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 2-4 years in relevant industries
• Extensive knowledge of the online media ecosystem (how content is shared, what type of content is trendy, who are the key content creators who might be interested in this project, etc). 
• Experience creating content for social media (videos, graphics, etc)
• Experience with movie editing (iMovie, Final Cut, etc) and graphic design (photoshop, canva, etc) software.
• Experience with online fundraising and digital campaign platforms (e.g. WordPress, Stripe, Mailchimp, ActBlue, Adwords, Facebook Ads) preferred
• Strong skills in developing and implementing objectives and monitoring progress through analytics and metrics
• Experience managing others 
• Works well in a team
• Excellent writing skills
• Familiarity with and passion for U.S. electoral reform highly desirable
• Willingness to learn!
