The Opportunity

Health Law Advocates (HLA) is committed to ensuring universal access to health care in Massachusetts, particularly for those most at risk of facing barriers to the health care they need. HLA provides free legal representation to community members confronted by health care obstacles, advocates for policy reforms, and conducts extensive community outreach. For three decades, HLA has been the only legal services organization in Massachusetts dedicated exclusively to health care access. Learn more about us at www.healthlawadvocates.org.

The Manager of Donor Relations and Events is responsible for managing the organization’s corporate and individual fundraising campaigns and activities, events, donor cultivation, and Pro Bono Legal Network. HLA’s signature fundraiser is our Annual Benefit Breakfast, a highly anticipated event with a 28-year track record of success. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Events & Fundraising:

  • Organize and execute all facets of fundraising events, particularly HLA’s Annual Benefit Breakfast in the fall, including: securing venues and speakers; managing vendors and budgeting; mobilizing committee members on their fundraising commitments; soliciting sponsorships; managing invitation and thank you mailings; tracking donations; publicizing events through email blasts, on our website, and on social media; and coordinating volunteers day-of.
  • Manage year-end campaign and solicit gifts from individual donors.
  • Consult and support other organization-wide events across departments.

Donor Relations (Outreach, Cultivation, and Management):

  • Cultivate and steward a dedicated portfolio of current and prospective donors.
  • Oversee young professionals’ advisory board that can assist with expanding our outreach, spreading the word about HLA, and bringing in new supporters, donors, foundations, clients, and volunteers.
  • Maintain database to track potential and active donors.
  • Organize June cocktail event for new and longtime supporters.
  • Publish materials such as Annual Reports, one-pagers, and/or Donor Thank Yous via newsletters to show appreciation and share updates with HLA’s donor community.

Pro Bono Legal Network and Volunteer Management:

  • Monitor case referrals to volunteer attorneys and support HLA and pro bono attorneys as needed.
  • Register and orient new members.
  • Maintain member database.
  • Draft and publish twice-monthly program updates including cases available for referral.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Non-profit development, communications, and/or volunteer management experience; donor relations and planning and running large fundraising events strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
  • Experience editing and maintaining contact databases
  • Experience processing complex mail merges

Preferred:

  • Passion for social justice
  • Ability to manage website content
  • Strong writing and editing skills

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $68,000-$75,000 annually. Benefits include:
