Summary: 350 Wisconsin Action is a 501(c)4 issue advocacy organization created in 2022 that works to change hearts and minds, laws and policies, and humanity’s massive systems to make transformational progress toward environmental justice and solving the climate crisis by 2030. 350 Wisconsin Action is committed to climate justice, the transition to clean, renewable energy, stopping oil pipelines in Wisconsin and surrounding states, and pushing financial institutions to divest from fossil fuel-related companies. We are eager to hire someone to help lead that work.

350 WI Action was established by 350 Wisconsin, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been engaged in the fight against climate change since 2012.

We are looking for someone who can work with the 350 Wisconsin Action’s Board, Political Action Team, and Executive Director to strategically plan and implement both electoral work and building 350 Wisconsin Action; engage and train volunteers and staff in the political process both as activists and as future candidates; and help with fundraising. Organizing experience is required, as is a commitment to building the power of people to make a difference in combating climate change. Strong candidates will also bring experience in political data management and targeting, organizing principles, DEIJ (diversity, equity, inclusion and justice), and short-and long-term planning. Strong candidates will also have an understanding of Wisconsin communities and politics. The overarching goal is to effectively build new bases of permanent climate leadership and support throughout Wisconsin.

This is an opportunity to help build and lead a major climate-advocacy and justice effort in the state from the ground up. The requirements and description of the role are below, but first and foremost we want someone excited about doing this work and about working with us to advance climate justice, climate policies, and climate champions in government.

Essential Functions:

  • With the Political Action Team, develop and implement the 2024 political plan.
  • Collaborate with the 350 Wisconsin Action Board and Political Action Team on strategy and tactics for effective electoral work.
  • Serve as project manager for 350 Wisconsin Action’s electoral work through the November 2024 elections. Using the 2024 political plan as a guide, make sure that assignments are carried out and deadlines are met.  Address challenges encountered and recommend changes to the plan as needed to improve effectiveness.
  • Manage volunteers participating in the electoral work. Identify ways to engage volunteers. Working with the Volunteer Coordinator, recruit volunteers. Train, support, and organize volunteers.
  • Understand, obtain, and use available technology to advance 350 Wisconsin’s work. This includes database tools (including VAN), as well as automated tools for phone-banking, mass texting, and relational organizing.
  • Regularly update the Executive Director, Board and Political Action Team on progress in implementing the 2024 political plan.
  • Lead in the development of an assessment plan and post 2024-election review and evaluation efforts in preparation for future organizing and election cycles.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Development Director to expand both individual and organizational fundraising to support the work of 350 Wisconsin Action.
  • Work with 350 Wisconsin and other (c)3 and (c)4 partners to powerfully communicate the stakes of the election for the Earth’s climate and environment, Wisconsin’s economy, and the health of its residents.
  • Advance a strategy around the reality that combating the climate crisis requires bold action, including growing and developing elected climate champions.

  • Candidates for the position should have these attributes:
  • Express and articulate their commitment to strong grassroots engagement to address climate change.

Time will be divided between work from the organizer’s home or other secure location, work in the field with volunteers, and meetings with both colleagues and contemporaries from partner organizations. The position requires travel within Wisconsin for organizing meetings, events, political activities, trainings, 1-1s, and other functions.
