Description

The Financial and Operations Manager will play a central role in overseeing the financial and administrative operations of National COSH. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Financial and Operations Manager’s primary goal is to ensure the business and financial operations of the organization run effectively and efficiently and with strong financial controls in place.  Candidates must have knowledge of financial management systems, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to our mission of worker justice. Bilingual Spanish-English is a big plus!

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial management

  • Plays a leadership role in the development of an annual budget, in collaboration with the Executive Director, staff and board leadership.  
  • Processes and tracks income, including grants, contracts, and individual gifts.
  • Enters invoices and credit card transactions, with proper documentation, into a central ledger and issues payments.
  • Ensures that the bookkeeping contractor has the information needed to update financial information into Quickbooks and prepare accurate financial reports.
  • Reviews monthly financial reports, produced by the bookkeeper, with the Executive Director, and ensures that final reports incorporate any corrections and are in a format that is most user-friendly for board and staff.
  • Gathers and provides documentation in preparation for the annual audit and ensures that state reports are filed.
  • Maintains financial files and documentation, and updates financial procedures as needed to reflect current practice.

Administration and Human Resources

  • Oversees new staff orientation and enrollment in payroll, retirement and health and dental insurance. 
  • Reports bi-weekly payroll and ensure accurate reporting of paid time off to payroll services company 
  • Provides administrative support for National COSH workshops and events, including developing slides, assisting with on-line zoom meetings, etc.
  • Play an essential operations and financial role in our national conference
  • Serve as a resource for COSH affiliates to strengthen their operations and financial management capacity

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Minimum of 5 years of operations and financial management experience in the nonprofit or similar industry 

• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks), spreadsheet applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel) and technology including databases.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy. 

• Excellent organizational and time management skills. 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with diplomacy. 

• Demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights, and social justice and racial justice values. 

• Bilingual Spanish/English a plus


Physical Requirements: Work is remote; location may be anywhere in the US.

Infrequent travel may be required to participate in National COSH and occasional external conferences.
