Organization & Program Description
Hollywood Food Coalition (HoFoCo) is a mission-driven nonprofit organization addressing issues around homelessness and poverty in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. HoFoCo has four areas of operation: Community Dinner, Community Exchange, Community Wellness, and Community Building. Our Community Dinner is the bedrock of our organization’s 36 year history of providing assistance to our most vulnerable community members. The Community Exchange Program is HoFoCo’s food recovery and distribution program.
Position Description
The Community Exchange Manager will oversee the Exchange program and lead it through its next evolution. Working with staff leadership and managing the Exchange staff, the position will be responsible for effective development and monitoring of the program, along with ensuring operational efficiency and sustainable growth. The role will manage and guide external relationships among donors, recipients, food rescue organizations, and other stakeholders, and it will also oversee logistics, database management, reports, and system development for the program. Last, the Community Exchange Manager will lead efforts for our Collaborative Food Hub project, which will include moving the Exchange from its current location to a new one.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the team to deliver high performance, identify and solve problems, and meet program objectives.
- Develop and execute vision, strategy, and goals, including maintaining fiscal oversight and an eye on sustainable growth, for the program.
- Ensure efficient and effective program operations, along with implementing and maintaining LEAN warehouse management techniques and procedures.
- Oversee development of the Exchange data dashboard
- Lead efforts for our Collaborative Food Hub project, ensuring strong partnerships that benefit the program.
- Act as the project manager for the Exchange warehouse move.
- Recruit, train, and manage staff members, including performance management and coaching.
- Facilitate integration and communications between the Community Exchange, Community Dinner, and Community Wellness programs.
- Design and oversee an effective volunteer program.
- Manage the program’s databases, including AirTable.
- Steward relationships with and find new donors.
- Create an annual program budget and manage it throughout the year.
- Ensure strong customer service and satisfaction for recipient organizations.
- Resolve incidents and personnel issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain equipment and facility to meet DPH Environmental health standards.
- Identify and implement safety training in key areas.
- Maintain good records and provide reports when requested.
- Work with Development when needed, such as giving program tours and running corporate volunteer opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in operations, preferably in food justice, food recovery, food bank, or food production industry
- 2+ years of management experience
- BA or higher in sustainability, business operations and logistics, or other related area (preferred but not required)
- Experience in Airtable preferred but not required
- Understanding of food industry, food rescue and recovery, hunger relief, and traditional food pantry models
- Experience with facilities management
- Ability to motivate and build highly engaged and effective teams
- Experience with developing and coaching employees
- Experience managing employee performance and interpersonal conflicts
- Strong leadership skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where daily challenges are common
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of people, including community members, food and financial donors, nonprofit recipient organizations
- Experience in achieving financial and operational goals
- Knowledge of and skill with warehouse and inventory management systems
- Detail oriented
