Are you passionate about the health and wellness of Bay Area youth and would like to provide health education? We are looking to fill Health Educator positions in organizations such as UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland Adolescent Medicine Department trains and supports 2 AmeriCorps members. They provide high quality, culturally responsive medical and mental health services to young people ages 12-24 in East Oakland, West Oakland and North Oakland. Each AmeriCorps member will provide health education and outreach at their home clinic. AmeriCorps will receive direct mentorship from medical doctors, therapists, and health educators and have access to UCSF training resources. What is BAYAC AmeriCorps?

BAYAC AmeriCorps collaborates with schools and community-based organizations to serve youth and families in the San Francisco Bay Area. As part of AmeriCorps, BAYAC Members commit to a full-time (40 hours/week) term of service in the Bay Area's most high-need communities, working to provide youth with opportunities for meaningful engagement, skill building, and emotional and social development. This is a paid work experience program for folks who are looking to advance their career working with youth and in the field of education. We are hiring folks to serve as after-school educators, classroom aides, academic coaches & mentors, tutors, health educators, case managers, and enrichment activities coordinators.

Position duties may include:

• Facilitate health education workshops for youth on topics requested by the community
• Meet with patients to identify substance abuse, relationship, exercise, other health concerns and screen patients for social determinants of health using FINDconnect
• Conduct outreach activities in neighboring schools to engage students in utilization of the health center including an annual health fair
• Create and distribute health education outreach materials including managing the department’s Instagram page
• Support students/youth in developing the skills they need to be successful in school and life
• Provide homework and academic support for program participants at school sites
• Provide case management, referrals, and independent living skills for clients at community based sites
• Plan and facilitate youth focused lesson plans and activities
• Promote a safe and positive learning environment
• Actively supervise and ensure student/youth safety at all times
• Model positive attitudes, behaviors, and language
• Communicate regularly with the site coordinator and regional supervisor
• Maintain accurate attendance records and reporting procedures
• Attend and participate in weekly training and cohort meetings

Qualifications:

• U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or a lawful permanent resident of the United States
• At least 17 years old
• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) and commit to an 11-month term of service
• Successful completion of TB test and Live Scan/fingerprinting (upon hire)
• Prefer to have 48 college credits completed
• Prefer bilingual in Spanish/English, not required
