Director of Development

Treatment Action Group (TAG) seeks a dynamic, motivated, and skilled individual to become its Director of Development, leading fundraising efforts and supporting the organization as it continues to grow. This position will report to TAG’s Chief Operating Officer. This is a full-time, salaried role.

The Director of Development will provide leadership for the direction, planning, and execution of fundraising, development, and advancement activities for TAG. This will include cultivating donor relationships, working with the Board of directors to drive giving, and acquiring/creating other revenue streams and partnerships. This individual will leverage their experience to develop and implement a strategic development plan to raise funds for TAG in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner and oversee all organizational fundraising efforts. The Director of Development will work closely with staff across the organization to identify, pursue, and manage funding sources. The Director of Development will also manage and support TAG’s Grants Manager and provide leadership and strategic vision for foundation and institutional funding.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Prospect and engage new and existing funders to diversify and grow TAG’s revenue from:Major donors and individual giving, through board-directed giving, appeals, and events;
• Corporate gifts and sponsorships;
• Foundations and grant makers;
• Extensive collaboration with TAG’s program directors.
• Partner with the Board of directors on fundraising events and initiatives, including supporting the board in donor cultivation.
• Work closely with TAG’s Executive Director, Chief Operations Officer, Grants Manager, and other key staff to involve them in development activities, donor cultivation, and events.
• Lead planning and execution of TAG donor events, including the annual Research in Action Awards.
• Creation and management of TAG’s fundraising budget and leadership for funder budgets with the ability to forecast revenue and report progress to TAG leadership.
• Create a long-term development strategy for TAG, including the aforementioned funding sources as well as new sources of income, such as an endowment.
• Develop and manage procedures and systems for grant-related activities, including relationship building, proposal creation, grant administration, and ensuring that reporting requirements are met, in collaboration with program directors.
• Provide supervision to TAG’s Grants Manager to oversee and grow TAG’s grants portfolio.
• Work with communications staff to write and develop donor materials for fundraising initiatives.
• Partner with Project Directors to engage and maintain funder relationships, including supporting monthly program financial meetings and monitoring financial compliance.
• Increase and maintain integrity of TAG’s donor data, including ongoing maintenance of its CRM, creation of organization-wide data entry standards and a moves management process, and utilizing this data in the development of a comprehensive strategy for targeted outreach.

Preferred Background and Experience

• Demonstrated success leading non-profit organizational revenue growth from a variety of funding sources (major donors, individuals, foundations, monthly giving, DAFs, corporate sponsors, etc.).
• Enthusiasm for TAG’s mission is a must; familiarity with advocacy, public health, community engagement, policy making, or lived experience with HIV, TB, and/or HCV, is a plus.
• Demonstrated success and evidence of ability to plan and execute comprehensive fundraising campaigns, including with major donors as well as those to generate new donors.
• Proficiency with donor database applications/client relationship management (CRM) tools, previous experience managing database quality improvement.
• Ability to use technology and electronic media, including the web and social media, to support fundraising.
• Excellent research, oral communication, and writing skills.
• Strong interpersonal and networking skills; friendly rapport with the ability to communicate effectively in a collegial manner and maintain relationships.
• Familiarity with nonprofit budget management and creation.
• Ability to lead a team and be a self-starter who can work independently and proactively in periods of limited supervision.
• Superb organization skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
• Receptivity to feedback.

Salary & Benefits

The annual staring compensation range will be $80,000 – $95,000, commensurate with experience, skills, and performance. TAG offers a competitive benefits package that includes fully-employer paid health insurance for the employee and their dependent(s), and generous paid vacation (starting at four weeks; five weeks after a year, plus 15 additional paid sick days, and employee chosen holidays). Location and Hours

This is an exempt position, with 40 hours per week expected ‌within TAG’s office hours (9am – 5pm or 10am-6pm ET). Work on evenings and weekends may be required at times.

TAG’s preference is for a New York City-based applicant but will consider fully remote candidates within the U.S. Remote candidates will need to be able to travel to New York City for quarterly meetings and to meet with key funders and stakeholders.

TAG does not currently require employees to work from our New York City headquarters office, however there is a preference for a candidate who can attend donor meetings and work in the office when tasks require.
