Position Summary: 

The Manhattan Division is a dynamic team within the Fundraising Resource and Development Division that focuses on innovative ways to reach donors and build community. The assistant will support Manhattan Division fundraising efforts and The Center for Youth Philanthropy and Leadership (CYPL).  CYPL is an opportunity for families with children in 6th grade through college to engage in the work of UJA in meaningful, hands-on ways, including individualized bar and bat mitzvah projects, a teen foundation board experience, and volunteer events. 

The Manhattan Division seeks a proactive, motivated, and flexible person to provide essential administrative support to the professional staff within the various Manhattan Division portfolios including general fundraising, events. This individual is also responsible for supporting CYPL programs: Give a Mitzvah – Do a Mitzvah (GMDM), Mitzvahs and Milestones (M&M), and the Philanthropic Advisory Council for Teens (PACT).

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Support meetings and other programmatic elements related to CYPL including PACT, GMDM, and M&M
  • Manage all logistical preparations for monthly PACT programs as well as annual events 
  • Help coordinate and assist with department events and activities 
  • Maintain records of past projects and create systems to record project history 
  • Manage calendar and files 
  • Screen telephone calls, check department email inbox, and respond to situations as appropriate 
  • Process payments and donations and prepare wire transfers  
  • Become knowledgeable and proficient in use of UJA systems including our fundraising, grant making, and purchasing systems 
  • Draft and send acknowledgement letters and assemble internal and external mailings
  • Help prepare for committee meetings and other meetings throughout the year 
  • Manage and update committee lists in our fundraising database 
  • Manage general Manhattan Division fundraising events and work events on an as-needed basis
  • Help with Manhattan Division general needs as they arise 
  • Be an integrated and involved CYPL and Manhattan team member 

Competencies/Experience  

  • Experience in teen education, engagement, and programming  
  • Excellent relationship building, interpersonal skills, and customer-service orientation  
  • Ability to inspire and influence others  
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and to manage multiple tasks  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required, as well as active listening skills   
  • Knowledge of issues facing the Jewish community and a strong commitment and passion to the mission of UJA-Federation  
  • Entrepreneurial and self-starter  
  • Willingness to be flexible with time and to work on Sundays and evenings as needed  
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to solve problems and work independently  
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required  
  • Bachelor’s degree required  

Salary Information:

The salary for this role is $45,000.
