Description: 

The TEN:TACLES Initiative (Transgender Educational Network: Theory in Action for Creativity, Liberation, Empowerment and Service) is a three-year-long grant-funded project supported by the Mellon Foundation’s Higher Learning Initiatives. It regrants funds to working groups and study groups that bring humanities-oriented scholarship in transgender studies to bear on social transformation activism that results in more accurate narratives about trans and non-binary lives.


Job Responsibilities: 

The administrative assistant will support the Principal Investigator/ Director (PI/D) in the startup phase of the Initiative by:

 

  • Facilitating communications and scheduling meetings with steering and advisory committee members
  • Facilitating communications and scheduling meetings with invited regrant projects
  • Conducting routine correspondence between Initiative participants, other staff of host organization, and public
  • Assisting with outreach activities
  • Assisting with selection of web designer and launch of project website
  • Assisting with design and production of advertising and promotional materials
  • Assisting with roll-out of social media presence for the Initiative
  • Other administrative support tasks as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 - 4 years of experience coordinating community-based, micro-granting, or academic
  • Experience working with transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming communities
  • Preferred familiarity with transgender studies as an academic field
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication
  • Experience working with diverse populations and commitment to cultural humility
  • Experience developing and monitoring budgets
  • Organized and detail-oriented with proven time management skills, ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines without sacrificing attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative and carry out job responsibilities without close and immediate supervision.
  • Strong computer skills: Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel),
  • Proficiency in web hosting applications and social media platforms
  • Must be available to work some weekends and some evenings, as needed


Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to communicate via phone, video calls, and e-mail
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time


Postion Details: 

This position is based at the GLBT Historical Society; ability to work on site as needed is required.
