Position: Development Manager

Position Type: Permanent; Exempt; Full Time

Hours: 40 hours/week

Compensation: $65,000 - $85,000 DOE

Job Summary:

This position works in concert with the Principal and Pastor (Co-Development Directors) and campaign and advancement event volunteer leaders to bring to successful conclusion development and advancement activities.


General Responsibilities:

The position would involve clerical duties related to our development office and also the creative ability to assist in the planning and execution of development and publicity events.


Fund Raising : Supports the Principal and Pastor (Co-Development Directors), in all matters related to fundraising including:

  • Stewardship 
  • Giving Programs
  • Annual Fund
  • Special Events
  • Grant Writing, Foundation, and Corporate Support 
  • Planned Giving

Management and Administration: 

  • Committee Meetings: The Development Office Project Manager will be responsible for arranging, preparing necessary materials, and attending and reporting as needed at all meetings where development is represented including Ministry Staff and Development Planning Meetings.
  • Gift Recording: Overseeing and performing data entry associated with the Office of Development, including: gift recording, data entry, processing online giving, memorial gifts and credit card donations, and donor recognition.
  • Office Administration: Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Development Office, including: preparation of donor letters, oversight of all donor and prospect files; oversight of the Raiser's Edge database system; and the organization of all development office research materials. 
  • Communications Program:  Responsible for writing and overseeing/conducting the editing and proofing of Development materials of Church and School, including pamphlets, on-line publications, newsletters and others, as assigned. In addition this position maintains and updates the VLC website and posts the weekly bulletin, create and distribute the weekly E-newsletter (VLC Mail), create event flyers, update the electronic bulletin boards, update the facebook pages, and tracks online viewership, 
  • Events: Create advertising for events, manage Team Chapel (marathon & half marathon charity teams), create and maintain the websites for our Gathering of Friends Annual gala, Golf Outing, and Team Chapel. Coordinate a bi-annual blood drive. Oversee the church photo directory. Create sign-ups, forms and flyers as well as help with organizing other events as needed

Skills & Qualities We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years experience in a development role 
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional organizational skills and a proven track record in project management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with grant writing 
  • Proficient at using donation-tracking software. Raisers’ Edge is a plus.  
  • Self-starter and independent worker.
