Description

The Development Associate is a remote position and works closely with the Development Director to meet Organizing Power In Numbers’ fundraising goals and objectives across fiscally sponsored 501c3 and 501c4 entities. The Development Associate will play a key role in grant writing and management, identifying new foundation prospects, tracking funder relationships, maintaining and improving fundraising data and systems, and digital fundraising for a rapidly growing organization with a current annual budget of nearly $7 million. Our ideal candidate is passionate about resourcing worker power and movement building work; an excellent writer; thorough, detail oriented and adept at independently managing multiple projects simultaneously; and able to build, maintain, and improve data management and tracking systems in order to strengthen fundraising efforts across the organization. 


Reports to: Development Director

Key Relationships: Development Director, Finance and Operations Director, Digital Organizing Director, Communications Director, Communications Specialist, Social Media Coordinator, Graphic Designer, Tech Director, Tech and Tools Coordinator, Data Specialist, Deputy Executive Director, Executive Director. 


Responsibilities:

  • Grant writing and management and prospect identification
  • Write grants, reports, and other materials for institutional funders
  • Lead on grant management, tracking grant and report deadlines, and ensuring timely submission of proposals and reports
  • Conduct ongoing research into new prospects and identify potential opportunities for foundation funding 
  • Assist Development Director with tracking relationships with foundations, including attending funder meetings with Executive staff
  • Fundraising data management
  • Maintain and strengthen UWU’s systems and processes for identifying, tracking and engaging prospects, donors and institutional funders.
  • Streamline and manage system for identifying potential major donor prospects from small dollar donors
  • Manage overall donor database coordination and donor tracking to ensure donor records are continuously updated, and current and accurate on EveryAction 
  • Track incoming contributions in partnership with operations and finance team and fiscal sponsor and create accurate and timely revenue reports
  • Digital Fundraising 
  • Build and steward a small dollar donor base through digital fundraising emails, peer to peer text campaigns, and phone banks in collaboration with communications and digital organizing teams
  • Assist in implementing strategies for retaining and upgrading current donors with a particular focus on identifying mid-range and major donors
  • Other responsibilities, including travel 2-4 times a year for organizational events such as staff retreats, fundraising events and as needed. 


Required Qualifications and Skills: 

  • At least 2 years fundraising experience, ideally for a social justice organization
  • At least 1 year of experience with writing grant proposals and assisting with foundation fundraising
  • Database management and spreadsheet skills
  • EveryAction and/or Grantseeker experience a plus
  • A self-starter and independent problem solver who is organized, detail oriented, and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, with a strong ability to effectively prioritize work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently and with a team 
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; a personal approach that values the individual and respects differences
  • Passion for social justice, building power in multi-racial working-class communities, decolonizing political organizing spaces, empowering grassroots leaders, and enacting impactful socio-economic policies towards long-term systemic changes
  • Flexibility and a willingness to take on an array of competing tasks.
  • Ability to work remotely
