Description

WhyHunger believes a world without hunger is possible. We provide critical resources to support grassroots movements and fuel community solutions rooted in social, environmental, racial, and economic justice. We are working to end hunger and advance the human right to nutritious food in the U.S. and around the world.

Founded in 1975, WhyHunger has been at the forefront of the movement to address the root causes of hunger and build a more just and equitable food system for nearly 50 years. Position Summary: WhyHunger is seeking a passionate, creative, and effective Institutional Giving Manager to join our development team. The Institutional Giving Manager will play a crucial role in cultivating relationships and raising funds from foundations, family offices, and aligned corporations to support WhyHunger's mission and programs. This position also offers an exciting opportunity to leverage our unique Artists Against Hunger & Poverty program to engage celebrity ambassadors in institutional partnerships and to leverage corporate and foundation support for artist-driven events and campaigns.

The right candidate will thrive as a member of a small, collaborative team and will have proven experience stewarding institutional donors of all levels and working cross-departmentally to manage the lifecycle of grants and partnerships from prospecting to proposal to evaluation and reporting. The Institutional Giving Manager will have one direct report and will be supervised by the Senior Director of Development.

Key Responsibilities:

Pipeline Development, Cultivation and Stewardship

• Proactively identify new funding opportunities and develop a pipeline to expand WhyHunger's institutional donor base.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with institutional donors, serving as the primary point of contact and representing WhyHunger's programs authentically and effectively.

• Cultivate and steward a wide variety of aligned institutional donors, including foundations, family offices, and corporations.

Proposal Development and Grant Management

• Lead the development of compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports that effectively communicate WhyHunger's impact, programs, and funding needs.

• Oversee the grant management process, including prospect research, proposal writing, submission, tracking, reporting, and compliance with donor requirements.

• Actively participate in WhyHunger’s cross-departmental monitoring and evaluation processes, working with staff and external consultants to measure and analyze the organization’s impact in ways that are aligned with our values and theory of change.

Networking and Outreach

• Represent WhyHunger at relevant conferences, events, and networking opportunities to enhance visibility and build relationships with potential institutional donors.

• Stay informed about trends and best practices in progressive institutional philanthropy to share with the organization that can enhance WhyHunger’s own grantmaking strategies as well as our fundraising effectiveness.

Management and Collaboration

• Supervise the Development Writing Coordinator.

• Work closely with program staff to understand funding needs and to gather information, data, and stories for proposals and reports, ensuring alignment between programmatic initiatives and donor/corporate priorities.

• Collaborate with Artists Against Hunger & Poverty to explore celebrity engagement in institutional partnerships, and corporate and foundation support for artist activations and campaigns.

• Partner with communications and our PR consultants to ensure alignment with organizational messaging, brand guidelines and narrative strategies in funder communications, and to amplify institutional partnerships across WhyHunger’s social and digital media and in the press.

• Participate in cross-departmental teams to support WhyHunger's overall fundraising goals, including events, concerts, the annual gala, and Hungerthon.

• Collaborate with programs and communications to ensure alignment and integration of fundraising efforts with organizational needs and priorities.

• Work with the finance team to develop accurate revenue projections, track fundraising results, and ensure progress toward organizational budget goals.

Qualifications & Core Competencies

The right candidate for this position is a gifted communicator and strong relationship builder who is passionate about engaging institutional funders to help fuel food justice and transformative social change. Strong candidates will have:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or related field.

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on institutional giving and corporate partnerships.

• Proven track record of successfully securing grants and contributions from foundations, family offices, and/or corporations.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate WhyHunger's mission and impact compellingly.

• Highly organized with strong project management skills; able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities effectively.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including program officers, institutional donors, staff, and Board.

• A passion for WhyHunger’s mission to end hunger and advance the human right to nutritious food.

• Demonstrated commitment to racial, social, economic, and environmental justice and a desire to be part of an anti-racist organizational culture.
