Program Manager

(Regular, Part-Time)

Newton at Home seeks a part-time Program Manager to support the organization’s continued and expansive growth. The new Program Manager will report to the Executive Director and collaborate with two staff and numerous volunteers. This is currently a part-time position (approximately 20 hours/week initially) that could grow into a full-time position to include other core duties for the right professional.

About Us: Newton at Home (NaH) is a member-led non-profit organization that supports adults age 60 and over, to age safely and independently in their chosen homes through the support of social activities, wellness and enrichment programs, information and resources, supportive services, and collaborative partnerships with other community-serving organizations.  With an expert staff and almost 100 volunteers, we strive to meet the social and practical needs of our members, who live across the 13 villages of Newton.

Position Summary

NaH is seeking a creative, energetic, and engaged Program Manager. This individual will assume the lead role in fulfilling one of NaH’s core objectives to provide a robust and compelling menu of cultural, educational, social, and wellness programs and events that enrich the lives of our older adult members. The Program Manager is responsible for designing, planning, executing, and promoting Newton at Home programs and events for its members and prospective members. This position works collaboratively with our committees, volunteers, and members, and will be supervised and trained by the Executive Director. Part-time, variable hours. Occasional evenings and/or weekend hours may be requested on limited occasions if we are hosting an event during those times that we'd like staff members to attend.

Event Planning and Implementation

●       Research new ideas for member programs, activities, and events for our monthly calendar of events with the aim of providing fresh and dynamic programming that addresses the full range of member needs and interests.

●       Plan the logistics, scheduling, and promotion for each program. Consideration and communication of accessibility for all members is a key component of every program.

●       Accompany members (or arrange for a volunteer host) for most in-person programs, outings, and trips, including museum visits, walks, concerts, lunches and more.

●       Work with the staff team and board committees in planning and executing special events

●       Assist with the coordination of member-led affinity groups

●       Create and maintain hybrid/Zoom programming

●       Support office operations as needed as part of a small team

Communications

●       Responsible for writing and editing program-related and other content for newsletters and other communications as needed.

●      Produce informative, visually engaging notices for upcoming events

●       Maintain print and online calendar

●       Build NaH’s social media presence

●       Manage program photos to promote NaH in the community

●       Collect and enter attendance data and prepare monthly program reports

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

●       Baccalaureate Degree preferred, with a concentration in Human Services or related field

●       Experience working with older adults, working in a nonprofit organization desirable

●       2-4 years’ experience in program and event planning, communications, or other related fields. Or any equivalent combination of education and related experience.

●       Critical and creative thinking & pragmatic positive problem solving

●       Ability to create a welcoming environment for members at programs and events

●       Awareness of accessibility concerns that may hamper members’ ability to participate in programming and willingness to make accommodations to promote inclusivity

●       Ability to work in a busy, small open office environment

●       Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail required

●       Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

●       Demonstrated skill in managing projects, multi-tasking, and meeting deadlines

●       High level of computer literacy, including Zoom, and Google and Microsoft suites

●       Experience and ability to learn MailChimp, Salesforce, Canva, others

●       Ability to work flexibly and cooperatively on a small team with a sense of humor
