Position Overview

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Policy, Performance, and Advocacy, the Manager of Performance and Analytics will support the Maya Angelou Schools’ efforts to be a data-informed organization that can measure the impact of its work with opportunity youth. The manager will work with program leads to collect, analyze, and report data aligned with the organization’s goals and external accountability frameworks, as well as support school leaders in having data-driven discussions. The Manager will also work closely with school and network teams to design and develop analytics tools that meet the needs of the end users. In addition, this individual will collaborate with others on the Performance Management and Accountability team to build the

data culture of the organization.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Develop and oversee schools performance management process across all sites to ensure schools are providing high-quality educational and wrap-around services to students and families
  • Submit and validate data for performance metrics to external agencies

-Generating end of year reports on final outcomes 

-Create and share tracking tools for school to monitor metric performance 

  • Provide technical assistance and guidance on the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation process for program outcomes

- Revising or designing logic model with school teams

- Professional development and/or coaching on designing measurable outcomes

- Work with Director of Student Systems to adjust systems to aid in the collection of necessary data

  • Conduct analysis and evaluation of program data, including stakeholder feedback, to identify trends and answer key questions
  • Develop and deploy dashboards to allow for staff to have real-time access to their performance data
  • Create and maintain code to allow the team to make validations and submissions more efficient
  • Develop and oversee strategies to aid in the strengthening of data culture at the school and network-level
  • Coordinate and support research initiatives, including external partnerships for research
  • Compile and maintain historic performance data and provide summary information to describe organizational services and impact over time to internal and external audiences
  • Support in the design of board materials and other organizational materials, as requested
  • Participate in accountability working groups with external agencies
  •  Develop playbooks, SOPs, and training guides as they apply to areas of performance management
  • Meet with school and network staff to keep them updated on policy impacting operations and work with teams to create new processes if needed
  • Supply data to school leaders, school staff, and network staff as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (required), Master’s degree in education, statistics, computer science, or information systems (preferred)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the education sector 
  •  High proficiency in using Excel and/or Google Sheets formulas and pivot tables to manipulate, compile, and analyze data 
  • Experience using Student Information Systems, such as Powerschool
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze trends in data and communicate them clearly and meaningfully to a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience writing and running SQL queries to manipulate data  

Strongly Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience using PowerBi or other Business Intelligence (BI) tools to visualize data 
  • Experience automating processes and managing data with Python
  • Experience coaching colleagues in data collection, analysis, and interpretation
  • Experience working with opportunity youth
  • Experience working with DC education agencies, including the DC Public Charter School
  • Board (DC PCSB) and the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE)
