CUNY’s Office of K-16 Initiatives creates innovative pathways for young New Yorkers to envision and achieve success by engaging strategic partners in confronting systemic educational inequities.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

The City University of New York's Office of K-16 Initiatives is seeking a part time STEM Research Academy Program Aide to provide support to the STEM RA program.

STEM Research Academy (STEM RA), provides eligible NYC high school students with the opportunity to take a pre-college College Now science course in the spring and engage in research across several STEM disciplines at a broad range of skill levels during the summer. Leveraging CUNY’s award-winning research faculty and facilities, STEM RA connects students with an interest in science to mentoring opportunities and the chance to engage in hands-on research in an academic research environment. The program aims to foster a passion for science through an enriching immersive academic experience for students who might not otherwise have access to research opportunities.

This position requires a motivated team-player with the ability to deliver a high level of support to high school and CUNY campuses, to work through barriers/challenges to designing high quality, student-centered educational programs in STEM Fields; as well as possess the ability to prioritize effectively, manage multiple projects simultaneously with high levels of accuracy, proactively solve problems, as well as achieve goals within or ahead of established time frames. 

The person in this role will assist in producing informational materials, handbooks, and reports related to the broad STEM RA program.  They will also assist with ongoing meetings with community stakeholders as well as events, ceremonies, conferences, etc.

The most successful candidate will have a passion for education, science or technology fields,  social services or research. Having program design and delivery experience would be a benefit. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the STEM RA Senior Manager, this part-time Program Aide responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Investigate and resolve outstanding items in a timely manner related to the program. 
  • Maintain professional and responsive communication with all stakeholders and CUNY campus staff. 
  • Monitor processes and systems that support the program for accuracy and work flow consistency. 
  • Maintain electronic documents, files, and records to provide current and/or historical reference to assist with project management and external reporting. 
  • Collaborate with other K16 and central office staff to coordinate and streamline processes. 
  • Support campus staff running the program to ensure efficiency and positive impact. 
  • Where possible support the delivery of the case management system used by near-peer & faculty mentors.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications 

  • An Associates Degree or equivalent, and at least two (2) years paid experience working with instructional support activities in a clerical or professional capacity, 

AND

  • Possession of the core competencies determined to be required at the time of hire. 
  • Intermediate level user, Microsoft suite software. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and individuals in a professional and respectful manner. 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Part time position to begin April 2024 with possibility of reappointment pending available funds and interest.
