5th Grade Social Studies Teacher

PVD Prep is a 5th through 8th grade college preparatory, tuition-free public charter school for Providence, Rhode Island.  The mission of our school is to prepare a diverse group of Providence middle school students for college preparatory high schools.  Our commitments are as follows:

Your specific duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Planning for and teaching multiple sections / classes each day (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Music, Visual Arts, Theater, Physical Education or other content area depending on assignment) using a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum
• For 5th/6th and 7th/8th ELA and math teachers: work closely with PVD Prep’s MLL Director to integrate specific language development strategies into classroom teaching
• Demonstrating exceptionally strong instructional and classroom management skills,
• Developing strong, productive relationships with students, parents and families
• Participating in professional development opportunities and attending all staff, team, and community meetings
• Creating a positive, achievement-oriented classroom culture that allows all students to achieve high academic standards

Additional qualifications:

• Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
• Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s Degree required
• 1-2 years of full-time teaching experience preferred
• Full Rhode Island certification or eligibility to receive expert residency or emergency certification
• Exceptionally strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Ability to demonstrate competency in other content areas beyond certification content, particularly in Literacy.
