Department overview: The Moth’s Global Community Department oversees the planning and execution of workshops, live events, and other storytelling opportunities for advocates and activists worldwide, in order to elevate important conversations around social justice, human rights, and global health overall. Members of the Global Community Department work together to strategically collaborate with partners including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and others to bring The Moth’s artistic vision to life on stages across the world.

Position Overview: The Moth is seeking a dynamic, innovative and detail-oriented professional to manage the overall operations of The Moth’s Global Community Program. The Manager will build upon the Program’s decade-long mission of developing and elevating true, personal stories from extraordinary individuals worldwide, in an effort to challenge dominant narratives, dissolve stereotypes and bridge social divides. 

The Manager of the Global Community Program will manage all aspects of the Program including the logistical planning and execution for the Moth’s storytelling workshops internationally and oversee the production of live storytelling events showcasing workshop participants on stages in the U.S. and abroad. The Manager also handles day-to-day partner relations with funders such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Ford Foundation and serves as the program’s main point of contact internally and externally. 

This will report directly to the Executive Producer. 

Responsibilities:

Event Management and Logistics

  • Work closely with the Executive Producer and 4-person Community team to plan, execute and manage all aspects of the Global Community Program. Plan and execute the logistic production for 8 or more annual Moth storytelling workshops, 10+ storyteller placements in various conferences worldwide and produce approximately three Moth events each year including but not limited to: location scouting, visa management, venue contract negotiations, management of audio + video crews, management of PAs and Assistant Producers, arrangement of onsite rehearsals, flights and hotel accommodations for tens of staff and workshop participant coming from multiple countries.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to produce onsite Moth events and provide logistic support for workshops on the ground (travel approx 2 weeks every 2 months).
  • Set agendas and lead weekly team meetings.
  • Support Executive Producer and community partners in recruitment and selection of workshop participants. 
  • Liaise with Moth Community Workshop instructors in support of The Moth’s training program.
  • Track the impact of the Global Community workshops by issuing surveys and gathering feedback from the workshop participants and managing the Moth’s internal data tracking systems. 
  • Crosstrain on Moth Mainstage Producing and attend internal meetings such as the all-staff meeting, team meetings, and cross-departmental convenings. 

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Manage, and forecast budgets, and track the Program’s expenses in a timely manner for internal and external stakeholders including grant reports for funders as well as manage reimbursements for participants, tellers, audio/visual engineers etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of qualitative and statistical reports for Development Directors, Board of Directors, and funders.

Stakeholder Communication and Engagement

  • Manage all communications with multiple funders and partners on logistical and operational aspects of the Program including the application and visa process, design and scope of workshops, as well as planning and budgeting.

Partnership Management

  • Contribute to the design and execution of engagement opportunities for alumni of the Global Community Program.
  • Update promotional and informational media, including web text, printed materials, and slide presentations and support Executive Producer in new partner outreach.


Experience/Skills: 

Required:

  • A minimum of 8+ years travel production management experience, ideally in large-scale conferences, theater, or film/tv production.
  • Experience managing assistant and associate producers and teams of teaching artists, freelancers and crew.
  • Skilled strategist who is nimble at navigating partners, storytellers, and other stakeholders.
  • Meticulous planner who delights in paying attention to details and works well under pressure. 
  • Expertise in Microsoft and Google suite, working knowledge of Salesforce, Airtable and other platforms. 
  • Ability to prioritize and handle logistics in a wide variety of settings with partners from diverse cultural backgrounds. 
  • Communicates diplomatically and clearly with all internal and external stakeholders, funding partners, instructors, participants and colleagues.

Preferred: 

  • Experience working with community organizations in Africa and/or South Asia. 
  • Fluency/proficiency in languages in addition to English preferred (Spanish, French, Arabic, Mandarin, other)

Note: this is a management/production position. The Manager of the Global Community Program will not be instructing workshops or designing curriculum. This role will manage and support several multi-year partnerships with various organizations. This role will grow as the organization and the associate partnerships continue to grow.

Salary: $77K - $87K/year. The salary for this position is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, organization needs, and internal pay equity. This salary is a part of a competitive total rewards structure inclusive of medical, dental, and vision coverage, generous PTO, sick leave, and a retirement savings plan after one year of service.
