Organization

The Asian University for Women Support Foundation (AUWSF) is a U.S. 501 (c)(3) Cambridge-based organization that serves as the principal fundraising arm of the Asian University for Women (AUW). AUW is a leading liberal arts and sciences institution of higher learning located in Chittagong, Bangladesh and founded in 2008. The University seeks to establish itself as the educational destination of choice for talented women from across the Asian continent and beyond, irrespective of their socio-economic background. 1500 students from 17 countries currently attend AUW: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Timor Leste, Vietnam, and Yemen.

Position

AUWSF is seeking an energetic and proactive Communications Officer to lead its media outreach efforts. This person will create, implement, and oversee internal and external communications programs, that consistently articulate AUW’s mission and support the strategies of AUWSF. The Communications Officer will work closely with the Assistant Director as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives, projects, and events.

Skills:

• A strong and clear communicator

• Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills are essential, including ability to present concepts verbally

• Video editing, basic graphic design and website design skills using tools such as Canva and Adobe Suit are preferred

• Excellent organizational and planning skills

• Superior project management and time management skills

• A creative eye for storytelling

• Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media

• Self-motivated with a passion for women’s empowerment and AUW’s mission

Role and Responsibilities

The Communications Officer will develop and produce a range of creative multimedia campaigns that will increase AUW’s awareness in new networks, enhance donor engagement and support fundraising targets.

Responsibilities include: 

• Managing AUW’s messaging, making sure it is consistent and clear across platforms.

• Create a storytelling bank of AUW students and graduates, highlighting the impact of their education through a range of mediums including profiles, videos, and imagery.

• Work in collaboration with the Assistant Director to produce the AUW Annual Report.

• Managing press outreach and overall communications strategy including outreach to major print and broadcast media to persuade them to write or present stories about AUW.

• Social Media: Manage AUW’s social media channels to ensure engaging content is shared with our audiences on a regular basis.

• Video: Produce, edit and post informative and emotive videos to suit different audiences and objectives.

• Copywriting: Writing and distributing eNewsletters, preparing talking points for interviews; drafting speeches; and drafting and placing op-eds. 

• Develop or update various marketing materials such as AUW brochures, one-pagers, etc.

• Event Support: Work closely with events coordinators to prepare visual content such as slides, save the date, invites, videos and programs.

• Organize and maintain the AUW photo and video bank.

• Audit AUW social media and online presence including LinkedIn and Wikipedia to ensure up to date and consistent information is being shared.

• Visit AUW:  Travel to the AUW campus in Chittagong to meet students, capture content and understand AUW as a whole.

Professional Experience/Qualifications

An advanced degree in a relevant field and at least 3-5 years of experience of copywriting, media relations or communications work is required.
