Position: Sr. Transportation Specialist

STATUS: Full time, Non-Exempt 

Commute Seattle is a 501c(3) nonprofit Transportation Management Association founded in 2004 with a mission to foster mobility partnerships and services to keep Seattle moving and thriving for all. We are supported by local governments and transit agencies and are part of a larger organization consisting of the Downtown Seattle Association and Metropolitan Improvement District. Commute Seattle partners with employers and institutions to implement sustainable transportation options and trip reduction strategies that positively change commute behavior, improve quality of life, and support economic and environmental goals. The Transportation Specialist is a vital part of a team supporting a nationally recognized Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program in a city with cutting-edge multi-modal transportation and new mobility programs. 

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The Sr Transportation Specialist works as part of a team to provide best-practice transportation technical assistance, support, and guidance to Seattle’s largest employers (affected by Washington State’s Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) law) and large buildings with City – mandated Transportation Management Programs (TMPs).  Alongside knowledge of Seattle’s transportation options, the specialist uses employer best practice research and excellent customer service skills to aid large businesses and buildings across Seattle to: 

  1. Achieve compliance with state and city mandates,  
  2. Implement a workplace commuter survey, biennial reporting, and  
  3. Provide effective TDM solutions for their employees.   

Another key objective for the specialist is educational programming for business and property managers, including trainings, events, and associated collateral materials.  This work is carried out under Commute Seattle’s service agreement with Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) and the Sr Specialist will work closely with program staff at the agency. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Track contract deliverables, maintain client database system, and fulfill all internal and external administrative functions associated with the position.  
  • Independently manage administrative processes such as new client outreach and onboarding, client offboarding, and client communication campaigns that reach 500+ worksites and properties. 
  • Collect, review, and interpret employee commute data; help customers to understand their worksite’s data trends and advocate for data-driven program improvements. 
  • Develop and implement criteria for content creation within the CTR program, including case studies, events, and trainings. 
  • Aid businesses and property managers to develop CTR/TMP programs and evaluate each program’s effectiveness and compliance with City and State requirements.   
  • Provide timely and friendly customer service to employers and property managers seeking information about transportation options. 
  • Draft bulk email communications, social media, newsletter posts, blog entries, and other materials. This may include copywriting, formatting, and basic graphic design that aligns with Commute Seattle’s brand guidelines. 
  • Plan and execute high-quality educational/informational seminars, brown bag presentations, one-on-one meetings, and small group presentations. 
  • Work collaboratively and directly with partner organizations and funders which include King County Metro, Washington State Department of Transportation, and the City of Seattle. Represent current partner products, services, promotions, and policies accurately and professionally. 
  • Comprehend, analyze, evaluate, and communicate technical information in writing and/or orally to a broad range of audiences. 
  • Meet deadlines and manage complex projects within a fast-paced, high-volume environment with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Generate new, and lead on, executing fee-for-service contracts with business customers. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A minimum of 3+ years of related employment which may include client management, account management, transportation demand management, commute trip reduction, consultative sales, transportation planning, or another related field 
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work independently and as part of a team on sensitive issues with a diverse group of individuals including agency partners and business customers 
  • Experience with budgeting and program evaluation/management (higher education or on-the-job experience) 
  • The candidate must be detail-oriented, and have extremely strong organizational skills to manage a high volume of customer service relations and database management, while also demonstrating the ability to meet deadlines and manage complex projects with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Competency with MS Outlook products, Zoom, or another video conference platform 
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, evaluate, and communicate data in writing and/or to a broad range of audiences 

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Passion for multi-modal transportation, sustainability, and/or affordability 
  • Ability to develop and present persuasive information to groups, public speaking experience 
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize work assignments, and consistently meet deadlines 
  • Experience using Power BI software, Adobe Creative programs, GIS or other mapping/analysis software, and social media platforms

COMPENSATION 

We are committed to internal and market equity. The hourly range for this position is $29.10 – $36.38 Salary is determined based on internal and market equity, internal and market data/salary ranges, and the applicant’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We will hire at the beginning of the salary range to allow future salary growth based on an employee’s performance, professional development, and increases in responsibilities and duties. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ACCESSIBILITY 

  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry boxes of varying weights, including printed materials, catering trays, equipment, and supplies. This may involve lifting up to 50 pounds or more. 
  • Setting Up and Breaking Down: Capability to set up event spaces, including arranging tables, chairs, decorations, and other event materials. This may require bending, kneeling, and reaching. 
  • Walking and Standing: Expectation to be on foot for extended periods during events, which may involve walking around event spaces, standing for long durations, and navigating various terrains. 
  • Stamina and Endurance: Events can be physically demanding, requiring energy and stamina to manage tasks effectively throughout the duration of an event, which could last several hours or days. 
  • Coordination and Dexterity: Skills in handling event-related tools and equipment, such as setting up tents, using technology for presentations, and managing audio-visual systems. 
  • Driving (if applicable): Although a driver’s license is not required, the ability to drive or willingness to learn to drive event vehicles such as vans or trucks for transporting larger event materials. 
  • Weather Conditions: Ability to work in various weather conditions when setting up outdoor events, including heat, rain, cold, or wind. 
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to think on your feet to address unexpected challenges that may arise during events, such as last-minute changes or equipment malfunctions.
