Our flagship transitional work program-- Ready, Willing & Able-- integrates paid work, occupational training, and holistic supportive services to facilitate an individual’s return to mainstream society. The Doe Fund has an annual operating budget of $77 million and a full-time staff of 400+, a significant percentage of whom are Ready, Willing & Able graduates.

We are looking for an Accounting Manager – Affordable Housing with public accounting or affordable housing experience. The person in this role will report directly to the VP of Finance and will primarily assist with month-end close activities as well as the financial reporting of our expanding affordable housing portfolio. Additionally the role will assist with preparation of audit work papers for our fiscal year end nonprofit audit and calendar year end for profit audits. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join a well-established organization working on the cutting-edge of important social issues.

This is a hybrid position (based out of our East Harlem office) with potential for being fully remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in month-end close activities including but not limited to review and analysis of income statement and balance sheet accounts. 
  • Assists in the preparation of interim and year-end audit working papers as assigned. 
  • Support VP of Finance with accounting and financial reporting on new affordable housing entities
  • Assist with technical research and guidance as complex accounting transactions occur
  • Monitor and maintain debt compliance reporting
  • Supports the VP of Finance and the CFAO with ad hoc projects and other related duties as necessary. 
  • Monthly IS and BS review, including the need for accruals and reclassifications
  • Quarterly and Monthly investor reporting, review and approve all buildings monthly bank recs, review all JE's related to the building bank recs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA License highly encouraged
  • 5 years of public accounting or affordable housing industry experience
  • Strong technical accounting understanding (solid grasp of debits/credits and general ledger account reconciliations)
  • Financial accounting software knowledge, ideally Blackbaud’s Financial Edge
  • Solid computer skills including MS Office Suite, Excel proficient (VLookups and Pivot tables) 
  • Solid organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
