The Climate Action Program Coordinator is a full-time temporary (12 month) grant funded position with the possibility for continuation with additional funding. Salary is commensurate with experience and internal equity.

Description

Climate Action Program Coordinator Position Overview: This position leads the organization’s climate action programming, creating, and managing volunteer experiences to meet the objectives and deliverables set forth in the grants and partnerships provided by California Volunteers, National Forest Foundation, and BACR’s CCAC Fellows.


The incumbent will have strong communications skills, be a self-starter, have experience in event production, and experience recruiting, working with, and managing volunteers and/or teams. L.A. Works is an equal-opportunity employer committed to workplace diversity.

 

The Climate Action Program Coordinator is expected to plan and execute Climate Action and National Forest Foundation volunteer events, with the support of CCAC fellows and volunteer project leaders, to recruit and manage 2,200+ volunteers in urban greening, organic waste, and wildfire resilience activities, from ideation to execution. The Coordinator is also responsible for supervising the CCAC Fellows who will focus their efforts on volunteer recruitment and volunteer communications.

  

Essential Job Functions

The list that follows is not intended to be comprehensive; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major responsibilities of the position. Incumbents may not be required to perform all roles listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

•   Coordinate all event logistics, including:

o   Securing sites, identifying project activities, and maintaining communications with nonprofits/schools;

o   Ensuring that the volunteers are recruited to assist with the logistics of the events (pre/post), leading the projects, and volunteer participants on the day of the event;

o   Leading/overseeing the day of the event;

o   Procuring event supplies and preparing materials for events;

o   Ensuring all event project supplies are at the project site on the day of the event;

o   Providing food, refreshments, and other incentives, where applicable (e.g., t-shirts or native plant giveaways); and

o   Coordinate the transportation of volunteers and community members to the wildfire site locations.

•   Attend all climate events (most are on Saturdays), provide pre-event stewardship, and brief educational introduction to volunteers (e.g., leave no trace/recreate responsible principles) at kick-off, and act as the main point of contact/leader.

•    Submit finance/expense reports and backup weekly and stay within budget.

•    Work with the Corporate team to ensure that all permits and school processes (insurance, approvals, etc.) are successfully met.

•    Support accurate project reporting in a timely manner for organization goals as well as funders California Volunteers, NFF, and BACR.


Ensure timely tracking and reporting within the Salesforce system to track and meet the following goals:

•    Participation of 2,200 volunteers

•    6,600 volunteer hours worked across all climate action events.

•    75% of volunteers reporting increased knowledge of climate change issues

•    75% of volunteers reporting increased appreciation of wilderness areas with new skills and new knowledge gained. 

•    75% of volunteers reporting improved mood and social connectedness for increased health

•    60% of volunteers reporting likelihood of returning to wilderness areas 

•    80% of partner organizations will report the work completed would not have been accomplished without volunteer support and/or they were able to divert resources to fill their mission in another way thanks to L.A. Works volunteer efforts.

•    5,000 native plants/trees planted.

•    20 acres of trail maintenance completed.

•    500 pounds of trash collected.

•    500 cubic feet of compost generated.

•    8 urban gardens created.


Additional Requirements:

•    Support L.A. Works large-scale signature events and other all-organization-wide needs.

•    Participate in an L.A. Works taskforce (an organization-wide, collaborative team).

•    Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

•    Valid driver’s license.

•    Access to personal car for travel throughout Los Angeles County.

•    Some evening and weekend commitments.

•    All other duties assigned by the supervisor.
